Maria Delia (Abrego) Gonzalez answered God's call to heaven on April 18, 2018, after losing her courageous battle with cancer. She was 38.
Her strong will to live, unwavering faith in God, and the love and prayers of family and friends carried her through this journey. Yet, even throughout her own struggle with cancer, she volunteered her time by serving on several church retreats and sharing her personal testimony. It also was her personal mission to share her love of God and sponsor loved ones to serve as pilgrims.
Delia was a devoted mother of two, teen-aged boys who loved spending time with her family. She especially enjoyed cheering for her boys at athletic games and school functions since she was their No. 1 fan. She defended them fiercely yet always made sure to keep them as humble and compassionate as possible. She believed her purpose on Earth was to be a mother to Jacob and Adam. Motherhood was her greatest joy.
Her passion was making others look and feel amazing through her skills as a hair stylist. Delia took pride in transforming others' day with a cut, dye, or updo. She particularly loved going to work with her Salon Glow family – Cathy, Brenda, and Sandy.
Delia was loved unconditionally and indiscriminately. She loved people from all walks of life, of all colors, and of all faiths. She also loved to laugh and live life to its fullest.
She is survived by Ensor Eligh Gonzalez; her two sons: Eligh Jacob Gonzalez and Adam Joshua Gonzalez; her father, Paul Acovio; her mother, Linda Abrego; her siblings: Belinda Martinez, Paul Acovio Jr., Jovana Martinez, Christopher Martinez, Yvonne Martinez, Courtney Rivera, and Lizzy Rivera.
She also is survived by numerous loving in-laws, aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
A special thanks to her aunt, Angie Acovio, and her cousin, Arsilia Avila Muniz, for the compassion, care, and support they provided Delia during her breast cancer journey.
Delia's life will be celebrated at Guardian Funeral Home. A public viewing is scheduled for 5 pm on Friday, April 20, in Chapel B followed by a recitation of the Holy Rosary at 7 pm. Funeral Services will take place at 10 am on Saturday, April 21, in Chapel A of Guardian Funeral Home.
