Maria Elena Galvan Rivera, 75, passed away on Saturday, February 25, 2017, surrounded by her loving husband and three children. Maria was born on December 11, 1941 in Corpus Christi, Texas to Seferino and Angelica Galvan.
Maria attended Crossley Elementary and attended Northside Junior High, where she was a Drum Majorette in the Northside Hurricane Band. She was a 1960 graduate of Roy Miller High School and a member of the Battlin' Buc Band. It was years before that, at Northside Junior High, that she met her husband of 53 years, Guadalupe Rivera. After seven years of dating, she married Lupe on October 13, 1963 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Corpus Christi, Texas. She was a loving wife, dedicated mother to her three children, grandmother, great-grandmother, and long time President's Club Avon Sales Representative.
In her spare time, she loved working on flowers/crafts, watching the Spurs, listening to classic Tejano music, and having conversations with almost anyone she met. She was blessed with a strong mind, wit, a very long memory and loved fried shrimp and a good cup of coffee.
Her parents, multiple brothers, and half sister precede her in death. She is survived by her husband, Guadalupe Sr.; three children, Elida Alvarez (Edward), Olga Robledo (Ronnie), and Dr. Guadalupe Rivera, Jr.; eight grandchildren, Ronnie Jr. (Cristina), Gabriel, Anthony, Andy, Alex, Adrian, Alina and Andrea; two great- grandchildren, Jeremiah and Elijah; and five grand dogs and one great-grand dog. She is also survived by many nephews, nieces, brothers and sister. Her grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
Public visitation will begin at 4:00 PM on Friday, March 3, 2017, at Guardian Funeral Home, with an Evening Service and Celebration to be held at 7:00 PM. Prayers and Farewell Service will begin at 10:30 AM on Saturday, March 4, 2017 at Guardian Funeral Home. Burial to follow at Rose Hill Memorial Park.
