Oct 25, 1935 — Sep 22, 2026
Mary Helen Curiel, age 90, of Ganado, Texas, passed away on September 22, 2026, surrounded by the love and memories of a life devoted to family, faith, and kindness.
Mary was born on October 25, 1935, in Ganado, Texas, to her beloved parents, the late Lionisio and Evarista Barron. She grew up with the values of hard work, humility, and devotion to others, qualities that remained with her throughout her life. Those who knew Mary will remember her as a loving and selfless woman whose gentle spirit touched everyone she met. She lived her life with grace and quiet strength, always placing the needs of others before her own and offering comfort, encouragement, and care wherever it was needed.
Mary built a life centered on family, and that love became the heart of her legacy. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother whose greatest joy came from the time she spent with those she loved. Her home was a place of warmth, laughter, and unconditional love, and her presence brought comfort to all who gathered around her. She had a way of making each person feel valued and important, and her family will forever cherish the many memories they shared with her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Lionisio and Evarista Barron; her husband, Jose Emeterio Curiel; her daughter, Maria “Lucy” Johnson; her sons-in-law, Johnny Johnson and Rick Trevino; two sisters; three brothers; and many other loved ones who welcomed her into eternal rest. Though their absence was deeply felt in her life, Mary carried their memory with her and honored them through the love she gave to her family and the strength with which she lived each day.
Mary leaves behind a beautiful family who will continue to honor her memory and the legacy she created. She is survived by her children, Jose E. Curiel Jr. and wife Gina, Maria Elena Trevino, Mary Alice Curiel, Jose “Jay” Curiel and wife Cris, Coach Jose Curiel, and Mary Ann “Cookie” Curiel (Jimmy.) She also leaves behind 15 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren, each of whom brought immense pride and joy to her life. Her family was her greatest blessing, and she found happiness in every milestone, every gathering, and every moment spent with them.
Mary’s life was a reflection of love in its purest form. She was known for her selflessness, her caring heart, and the quiet dignity with which she met life’s joys and sorrows. She offered support without being asked, gave comfort without hesitation, and loved without condition. Her family and friends will remember her for the many acts of kindness that defined her life and for the steadfast devotion she showed to those around her. Her legacy lives on in the values she passed down, the memories she created, and the generations she helped shape.
