Marguerite B. Smith, 60 of Corpus Christi, Tx. passed away after a long battle with cancer Friday, April 25, 2014. She was born January 19, 1954 in Corpus Christi,Tx Marguerite was a longtime  employee of the Nueces County Department of Human services. She was loving wife, mother, daughter, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend.  She was preceded in death by her mother, Maria Benavidez, sister, Anita Benavidez, brothers,Robert and Rene Benavidez and Vic Castro. She is survived by her father, Rene Benavidez, Sr., husband, Jose Perez, sons, Herbert Anthony Smith, Jr., Richard Andrew Perez, Jose Antonio, Juan Albert Perez, three grandchildren, sisters, Elva (Modesto) Zavala, Gloria (Jesse) Jasso, Beatrice Trevino, Marilynn B. Verduzco, Hortencia (Robert)Keiser, brother, Larry (Susan) Benavidez, and godsons, Zachary (Crystal) Verduzco and Brian Verduzco and numerous nieces, nephews & cousins. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, May 1, 2014 at Guardian funeral home chapel B with a Catholic Service and Celebration of Marguerite's life to begin at 2:00 p.m. Burial will follow at Memory Gardens cemetery.
