She worked as a lab technician for an OB/GYN doctor for several years. During this time, while
on vacation in Miami, FL. That she met the love of her life Gary L. Porterfield who was a Student
Naval Aviator at the time. She would later pin on his wings of gold when he graduated and they
became engaged. After a year of airmail romance, they married and began a journey that
would span 58 years. The timid girl from Buffalo learned quickly and mastered the
management of family affairs during times of Gary's absence. They moved around extensively
in the Navy. During this time in San Diego, CA. Lynda gave birth to Glenn and Jay. She did a
miraculous job raising the two boys almost single handedly while her husband was frequently
deployed. When the boys were 6 and 7, the family moved to Japan for 3 years and then were
ordered to Corpus Christi, TX arriving in July 1980. They all fell in love with Corpus Christi and
that is where they stayed.

When the boys went off to college Lynda started a new career. She began giving out
food samples in the super markets. She soon flourished at it because of her bright smile,
friendly attitude and warmth. She was in demand because she frequently sold out of the
product and got high marks from the managers. She eventually was hired for marketing
accounts at the Navy Commissary. Most notably were P & G and Blue Bunny Ice Cream. Blue
Bunny was her favorite as she gave out samples every other Saturday and became known as
the ice cream lady.

Throughout her life the family loved the outdoor life style. Lynda was a sun worshipper
and always had a great tan. Camping was a natural pursuit. The family went from tents to a 33'
5th wheel RV. They traveled the country on vacations and weekend trips with the Bluff Stuff
Sam's RV club.

She fiercely loved her husband and was most proud of her two sons and three
grandsons. She will be most remembered for her bright smile that would light up the room, her
warm and friendly attitude and her boundless energy. She was everyone's friend.
