Luz Tarin
Guerrero, Jr.
Mar 16, 1942 — May 9, 2026
Luz T. Guerrero Jr. was born on March 16, 1942, in Marfa, Texas and went to meet the Lord on May 9, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family. He was the son of Luz Aguirre Guerrero and Rosa Tarin Guerrero, and the devoted husband of Gloria C. Guerrero, with whom he shared over 53 years modeling a sacramental marriage for his children.
Luz was a proud father to Raul C. Guerrero and Rose A. Guerrero. Raul and his wife, Rhyanne, blessed him with two grandchildren — Roandeas “Dizzy” Guerrero (9) and Rhapsody “Sadie” Guerrero (6) — who brought him endless joy. Rose and her wife, Cindi, gave him his eldest grandchild, Luz A. Guerrero (12), who held a special place in his heart. His family was the center of his world, and he carried his role as husband, father, and grandfather with deep devotion.
At the age of 19, Luz enlisted in the United States Army, serving from 1961 to 1964 as an Ear, Nose, and Throat Specialist. He ran a medical clinic in Verdun, France, where he cared for soldiers with skill, steadiness, and compassion. His service shaped the discipline and quiet resilience that would define the rest of his life.
After returning home, Luz followed a winding path of jobs that eventually led him to teaching 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade in Redford, Texas where he met his wife, Gloria. He later built a long and respected career as an IRS agent, serving for 27 years before retiring. His friends and colleagues knew him as honest, reserved, and unwaveringly dedicated.
Luz is preceded in death by his parents and his younger brother, Raul. He is survived by his immediate family and his three sisters: Elodia Contreras (Manuel Contreras), Ida Anderson (the late James Anderson), and Eloisa Espinoza (the late Eraclio Espinoza).
The Guerrero family wishes to thank the Maldonado family, the Catholic Daughters, Deacon Billy, and the friends and church family of St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Church for their incredible support. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made on his behalf to St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Church.
The celebration of the life of Luz begins Monday the 25th of May with a rosary at 6:30pm at Guardian Funeral Home, 5922 Crosstown Access Rd. The mass will follow on Tuesday the 26th at 11:00am at St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Church, 3513 Cimarron Blvd. The funeral procession will continue to the burial sight at Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery located at 9974 IH37 Access Rd.
