Luz Elida Cantera fought her battle with cancer once, giving her the chance to spend more time with her large, beloved family. On Jan. 24, 2017, after having been diagnosed with cancer once again, she went to be with our Father in Heaven. She was 75.
Luz was born July 12, 1941, in Corpus Christi to her loving parents, Jose and Rachel Gonzalez. Throughout her growing up, she was always close to Jesus Christ and attended various churches, eventually becoming a member of the Solid Rock Church.
Luz worked many jobs in her lifetime, joining the workforce at a young age; but on her days off later in life, she enjoyed relaxing with a pack of Winston Red 100's and watching her favorite NBA team, the Detroit Pistons.
Faith was important to Luz, as was her family. After the birth of her first child, Ismael Cantera, Luz went on to have four more children, followed by 15 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Love was never in short supply.
Luz was preceded in death by her loving husband of 43 years, Magdaleno Cantera; and granddaughter, Jennifer Nicole Cruz. She is survived by her children, Ismael Cantera, Christine Navarro (Arturo), Cruz Cantera (Michele), Gilbert Cantera, Rachel Palos; 14 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be on Friday, January 27, 2016 from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 28, at Solid Rock Church, 4922 Yorktown Boulevard. A reception will follow at Themed Events-N-More, 4701 Ayers Street.
