Luis V. Martinez, 96, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, June 12, 2024.
He was born August 18, 1927, in Mission, Texas. Luis was married to Josephina Cardenas Martinez on June 12, 1945. Josephina proceeded Luis in death in 2014.
Luis was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and great-great-grandfather. He served his country proudly in the Army Air Corp during World War II. Upon his return from California, he worked for Missouri Pacific Railroad for 45 years. He always had a great sense of humor and loved telling stories about his friends and family. He was a good man and will never be forgotten by those who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his sister, Elvira Zartuche; 4 children: Yolanda (C.R) Cockran, David (Dianna) Martinez, Mary (Santiago) Torres, Arturo (Beatrice) Martinez; 7 Grandchildren: John David Martinez, Wally (Martha) Martinez, Just (Paola) Martinez, Ryan (Dr. Christina) Cochran, Carrie (Clay) Dees, Veronica (Roberto) Garza, Santiago Torres, Jr.; 12 Great-grandchildren: Mia Sara (Enrique) Rios, Kameron Martinez, Summer Sewell, Jacob Deese, Josephina Deese, Dorothy Deese, William Deese, Logan Cochran, Sophia Martinez, and Sebastian Martinez; and 4 great-great-grandchildren: Maverick Bragg, Bennett Duncan, Gabriella Nicole Garza, and Jacob Nathan Garza.
The Family would like to thank Windsor-Calallen Skilled Nursing Center and Altus Hospice Group for their respect and care of Luis.
A holy rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 26, 2024 at Guardian funeral home chapel. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 27, 2024 at Most Precious Blood Catholic church 3502 Saratoga Blvd. Burial will follow with full military honors at the Coastal Bend State Veterans cemetery 9974 I. H. 37 North Access Rd.
