Obituary

Lon Rayburn Hipp, age 82, of Corpus Christi, Texas, passed away on March 17, 2026. He was born in Guntersville, Alabama, and lived a full and impactful life centered on family, strong relationships, community, and a deep love for the outdoors.

Lon built a distinguished career as a home builder, contractor, and developer. He served as past president of the Corpus Christi Builders Association and played a key role in the development of the Wood River subdivision alongside his partner. His influence extended beyond construction as he served as campaign manager for Mayor Betty Turner and was instrumental in forming 4U-CC, a non-profit foundation that led the way for Corpus Christi State University to join the Texas A&M University System, becoming Texas A&M University–Corpus Christi in 1993. He also proudly served his country as a veteran of the United States Army.

Outside of his professional accomplishments, Lon was known for his passion for the outdoors. He loved hunting, fishing, and skiing – especially when those experiences were shared with his grandchildren. He had a keen eye for outdoor and landscape photography and enjoyed capturing the beauty of the places he visited.

Lon and Lynn shared a love of travel, exploring the world together with family. Among his favorite destinations were Italy, where he enjoyed the local wines, and Las Vegas, where he could often be found at a blackjack table.

Lon was a strong man with a commanding presence. He had a bold personality that naturally drew people in, and he truly never met a stranger. Beneath that presence was a deep care for those around him. He was devoted to his family, with a special joy of his grandchildren, and valued the relationships he built throughout his life.

Lon is survived by his wife, Lynn Hipp; his daughters, Dana Marek and Erica Haycock (Garrett); and his stepchildren, Judy Schulz, Jay Survant (Ali), and Corey Survant (Erin). He was a proud grandfather to Siena Marek; Carter and Tyler Haycock; Evan, Skylar, Ian, and Drake Schulz; Wyatt and Rebecca Survant; and Ava and Ella Survant. His family was central to his life, and he found great joy in time spent with each of them.

He will be remembered for his strength, his warmth, and the lasting impact he made on his family, his community, and all who knew him.
