Obituary

Leon McJunkin, passed away on August 19, 2016 at the age of 92. Leon was born in 1924 the eighth son to Samuel and Matilda of Tahlequah, Oklahoma and graduated from Bagley High School in 1941. He immediately enlisted in the Army Air Corps. After 3 months he completed aircraft armament school at Denver Colorado to be shrouded secretly in covered trucks for destination India. After 63 days of sea travel his convoy arrived in Karachi, India. He retrained as a radio operator and proceeded over land by train to Calcutta for service in Hqs India Air Task Force. Next he was transferred to the Assam area in the shadow of the Himalayas. For an assignment flying in C47 aircraft over the 'hump' into Japanese held Burma. He was awarded the Air Medal and the Distinguished Flying Cross. In 1948 he served 3 yrs in Rome Italy, in 1950 he served 4 yrs with the U.S. Embassy in Argentina. After retirement from the Air Force he was employed by the Army at Corpus Christi, Texas.
Leon is survived by his wife Alexis, two sons Chris (Lisa) and Dane and three grand children , Dakota , Reese and Kevin. Life was everything energetic. Traveling to destinations like the Canary Islands, Spain, Portugal, Paris, but always back home for the beach, sun and sand. From dune buggies, hobie cats, ultralite aircraft and jet skies and special was flying his aircraft to Belize and Matagorda Island. He lived life to the fullest. Services will be private.
