Obituary

Lela Edna Roberts, 85, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on February 11, 2026. She was born in Corpus Christi, Texas on April 9, 1940.
She graduated from Tuloso-Midway High and received her Bachelor of Education degree at Corpus Christi State University (now Texas A&M-Corpus Christi).

With heavy hearts and deep love, we celebrate the life of a remarkable woman who meant so much to so many. She has always loved working with children, and prior to becoming a teacher, she owned and operated her own independent
pre-school daycare.

As a devoted teacher, she spent her life making a difference in the lives of children. She was not just a teacher by profession, she was a guide, a mentor, and a nurturing force for every child lucky enough to cross her path. In the classroom, she didn't just teach lessons; she encouraged creativity, built confidence, and was known for her exceptional ability to connect with kids, making them feel seen and heard.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jerry Roberts, and her son, Jerry Vernon Roberts. Though their loss was deeply felt, she carried their love with her always.

She is survived by her children, Janna Roberts and Lisa Bowers (Steve), who were her pride and joy, and she celebrated their lives and accomplishments with a full heart.
She is also survived by her loving grandchildren, Robin Roberts-Lambert (Avery), Hunter Bowers (Danielle), Tyler Bowers, and Taylor Bowers who brought her endless happiness. In addition, she had two great-grandchildren she loved; Amethyst Royce and Xara Lambert, and a future great-grandchild, Lily Beth Lambert, expected in April.
Also, she is survived by two sisters, Belinda Ebert (Roy), and Shelley Sparks, along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

To those who knew her best, she was a wonderful wife, a loving mother, and an incredible Nana who adored her family.

She loved baking and there was nothing that made her happier than having her family and friends gathered around her. Her home was a place filled with warmth, laughter, and the comforting smell of something sweet in the oven. She had a gentle spirit, a kind heart, and a way of making everyone feel welcome and important.

Mom had a servant's heart, always putting others first and offering encouragement whenever someone needed it. She had a beautiful ability to listen, to support, and to make people feel valued. Mom had a gift for building friendships that lasted a lifetime. She stayed close to so many dear friends over the years, always making the effort to check in, share a laugh, and keep those connections strong, even keeping in touch with her college roommates throughout the years.

Her legacy lives on not only through her family but also through the countless students whose lives she touched. The lessons she taught went far beyond the classroom, shaping lives and leaving a lasting impact.

She will forever be remembered for her love, her compassion, her generosity, her kindness, and the way she made the world a better place simply by being in it. Her family and all who knew her will carry her memory in their hearts always.

In the face of this loss, we find comfort in the words of Romans 8:38-39, believing that mom is now held in the everlasting love of God.
"For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Jesus Christ our Lord." Romans 8:38-39.

A visitation will be held on Friday, February 27, 2026 at 12:30 pm at Guardian Funeral Home, followed by the funeral service at 1:30 pm. Burial will take place immediately following the service at Memory Gardens.
