Obituary

Launa Nicholson passed away on February 8, 2025, with her family at her side. She was born to Oscar Van (Babe) and Minnie Mandy Cooper on January 1, 1937, at the family farm outside Winters, Texas, graduated from Winters High School in 1956, and attended Howard Payne University in Brownwood. After graduation from high school, she moved to Corpus Christi to be near her older sister, Louise. Launa met her husband, Lawrence Nicholson, in Corpus Christi and married him in 1957. They lived in Corpus Christi, Ingleside, and Sinton before settling back in Corpus Christi in 1965. They had three boys Timothy, Christopher, and Patrick. She spent the next decade raising and caring for her family. In the early 1970's, she went back to school at Del Mar College to become a Licensed Vocational Nurse in 1975. After spending a few years working in the maternity unit at Spohn Hospital, she returned to caring for her family – her first calling.

While her interests included caring for her six cats, music, playing cards, working on jigsaw puzzles, making stain glass, and gardening; Launa always loved nurturing and cooking for her family. Her sons still joke about having to have yellow and green vegetables at every meal. She and Larry were married for 37 years. Launa remained in the family home until a few years ago when health issues required her to move to Garden Estates where she developed new friendships with residents and staff.

She is survived by two of her sons Chris and Pat; two daughters-in-law Debbie and Marcia. She is also survived by her grandson Jeffrey Nicholson and his wife Merari along with two great- grandchildren, Evelyn and Luke, and grandson, Cass Gabriel. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Ruth Cooper of Winters along with numerous nieces, nephews, and their families throughout the state.

She is preceded in death by her oldest son Tim (Jeffrey's father), her parents; two brothers (Ronald and Doyle Cooper), and her sister Louise as well as her ex-husband Larry.

Services will be held on Friday, February 21, 2025 at Guardian Funeral Home at 1:00 p.m. with the family to receive friends and family starting at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery, 9200 Old Brownsville Rd.
