Obituary

Larry Armstrong Spears has died at the young age of 70. His exploits in the oil fields made him and his Red Ford Pick-Up a household name in the business. Spears started his career in 1967 as a Roughneck, advancing to Floors and Derrick Man, Driller, Tool Pusher, Drilling Consultant, and Company Man. Spears worked with E.O.G. Resources of Corpus Christi, Texas, O.G.E. Drilling, Parker Drilling Company, TransWestern Exploration, R.G. Drilling, Roden Oil company, and Terra Resources. His career overseas was: Indonesia, Columbia, Africa, utilizing helicopter rigs in jungles of Indonesia, and loading rigs on ships in Singapore for shipment to the jungle. He succumbed to Cancer on Saturday, April 6, 2014 with his immediate family in corpus Christi, Texas. He was born in Tahoka, Texas with cotton farming and oil field roots, preceding him in death was his father and mother, Watson and Lottie Spears, and his only brother, Michael Spears. His family includes his wife, Sharron Barbee Spears, daughter, Larissa Spears Zenker of New Jersey, son and wife, Todd and Kim Spears of McKinney, Texas, daughter and husband, Jody Kae and Ed Priest of Whispering Pines, North Carolina, and son, Nelson Schauer of San Antonio, Texas, Grandchildren, include, Brock, Alec, and Chloe Zenker of New Jersey, Kriysten, Courtnee, Leah, Todd Watson, Jr., and Tori Beth Spears of McKinney, Texas, Strickland and Stone Priest of Whispering Pines, and Jayden Schauer of San Antonio. His sisters are, Patsy Williams of Andrews, Texas, Bonnie Barrington of Las Vegas, Nevada, Linda Timmons of Beeville, Texas, sister-in-law, Francis Spears of Corpus Christi, Texas and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Spears also leaves a family of brotherhood in the Oil and Gas Business of 47 years. A celebration of Life will be on Tuesday, April 8, 2014 at 6:00 o'clock in the evening till 7:30 p.m. at Covenant Baptist Church, 7001 Williams Drive, Corpus Christi, Texas with dinner following. The family request: only smiles and a lot of laughter to celebrate "Hero's" life.
