Kathleen Jayne Flippo, 62, passed away peacefully at her residence in Aransas Pass, Texas on December 2, 2023. She was born on June 24, 1961 in Flint, Michigan.
She grew up in Flint, Michigan where she worked on her family's Christmas tree farm in Brighton, Michigan. She had one brother who has passed away Larry Kelly and 2 sisters Linda Kelly and Sherry Anderson, who both survive her.
Kathleen moved down to the coast around the year 1982, at the age of 17, following her sister Sherry to warmer weather and a beautiful beaches. She was a bartender at the gaff for over a decade, then part time at the Coast Club while she attended college at Del Mar. Shortly thereafter Rhonda Shirey bought the establishment and Kathleen started working for Rhonda and later became the full time manager in 2002 at the Salty Dog and has been there ever since; almost 30 years in total.
Kathleen found found great joy fishing and relaxing on the beach. Some of her favorite bands were the Eli Young Band, Chris Young, Styx, Elton John and Santana. She was big part in rescuing bull terrier the Spud McKenzie dogs. Her compassion and love for animals led her to always be an advocate for rescues. She sure did love her bull terriers.
Along with her sisters, she leaves to cherish these memories her two sons: Preston Flippo and Michael King.
She was loved by everyone on The Island, she truly never met a stranger.
She had a smile a mile wide and a heart just as big. Her love will always be our guide.
