Obituary

Katharine "Kathi" Mary Harms, a beloved mother, grandmother, and educator, passed away peacefully on June 19, 2024. Born on October 31, 1949, in Elgin, Illinois, to Raymond and Mildred Crawford.

Kathi's life was characterized by her deep commitment to God, family, education, and community.

Raised in Kirkland, Illinois, Kathi attended the local high school and went on to graduate from Northern Illinois University with a degree in Theater and English. Her academic journey reflected her passion for learning and set the stage for a fulfilling career in education.

In 1971, Kathi married the love of her life, Gordon Harms. Together, they began their journey on a farm in Northern Illinois, which they managed until 1978. Seeking new opportunities, they sold their property and relocated to Monroe Center, Illinois. Their shared sense of adventure and
dedication to family saw them move through various states, including Minnesota, Ohio, Wisconsin, and Missouri, creating a vibrant and ever-changing household.

Kathi's professional life was diverse and impactful. She served as a teacher, a medical transcriptionist, a customer service manager, and eventually rose to the position of dean at two colleges. Her role as a Dean at Billye Brim Bible Institute was particularly meaningful to her.
Known for her meticulous attention to detail, Kathi was dedicated to ensuring that every student received the recognition they earned. Beyond her professional accomplishments, Kathi found immense joy in traveling to visit her children and grandchildren, creating cherished memories
that spanned across states.

Kathi was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond (1972) and Mildred (1981), and her devoted husband, Gordon (2017).

She leaves behind a loving family, including her four sons and their families: Jeff Harms and his partner, Carla Johnson, and grandson Dakota of
Waunakee, Wisconsin; Raymond Harms and his wife, Christine, along with their sons, Alex, Reagan, and Nathan of Sanford, Florida; Peter Harms and his wife, Annie, and their children, Judah, Sallie, and Avi of Corpus Christi, Texas; and Andrew Harms and his wife, Kelsey, with
their daughters, Helen, Amelia, and Eleanor of Mound, Minnesota.

Kathi's life was a testament to her enduring love, resilience, and dedication to the Lord and to those she held dear. Her legacy lives on through her family and the countless lives she touched throughout her friendships and career. She will be profoundly missed and lovingly remembered
by all who knew her.

A private memorial will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Christians United for Israel or the Alzheimer's Association in Kathi's honor.
