Juan "Johnny" Ortiz was born September 3, 1948 and passed away October 7, 2022. Johnny is preceded in death by his father Pedro Ortiz , mother Janie Ortiz and brother Pedro Ortiz Jr. Juan is survived by his daughter Lynda Yvonne Ortiz , Marina Perez(spouse), sisters Mary T. Gauger, Guadalupe Cruz, Rosie (Mike) Coker, and brother Richard (Patricia) Ortiz and sister-in-law Faye (Pedro) Ortiz as well as six grandchildren that he loved so dearly and several nieces and nephews. In different phases of Juan 's life, he had various careers. He first started out as a printer assistant right out of high school. He then joined the United States Army where he served two years overseas during the Vietnam War and four years in the army reserve before he ended his military career as a Specialist 4th Class. When he returned, he continued his passion for the printing business, managing a print shop. In 1980, he finished his career in the printing business and helped manage the family restaurant known as "Janie's". After the restaurant closed their doors, Juan attended Del Mar College and completed courses on substance and drug abuse counseling. He was most proud of his work with at risk kids going to the different schools and speaking to them about substance abuse. He mentored many teens during his years of counseling. Juan "Johnny" will be missed by his family and all who knew him. We would like to give a great thank you to his niece Maria "Lisa" Valdez and his sisters Guadalupe Cruz and Mary T Gauger for their care of Johnny these last few years.

There will be an inurnment on Tuesday, December 13, 2022 at 1pm the Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery.
