Obituary

Juan "Johnny" Cortez III entered eternal rest on August 13, 2022, at the age of 18. He was born in Corpus Christi, Texas on February 2, 2004, to his loving parents, Juan Cortez Jr., and Valerie Treviño Cortez.

Johnny leaves to cherish his memories: his parents, Juan Cortez Jr. and Valerie Treviño Cortez, his sisters: Sarah Cortez and Natalie Cortez, and his brother Alex Cortez; his paternal grandparents: Juan Cortez Sr and Rosie Cortez; his maternal grandparents: Luis Treviño Jr. and Leonor Treviño; his maternal Great-Grandmother: Maria Inez Gaytán and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends who have loved Johnny throughout his life.

Johnny is preceded in death by his uncle, Jose "Pepe" Gaytán, aunt Esther "Yola" Gaytán, uncle Gilbert Trevino, cousin Andrew Trevino, cousin Cassandra Marie Covarrubio, and cousin Abigail Marie Gutierrez.

Johnny truly lived life to the fullest and worked hard at school. Johnny is a proud 2022 graduate of W. B. Ray High School. He was a student at Del Mar College and was studying Welding Applied Technology and was a proud honor student. Johnny's accomplishments include being a part of the Student Council at W. B. Ray High School and the LifeTeen group at Ss. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church. He was often found lending others a helping hand with no questions asked. Johnny was the protective big brother to his siblings Sarah, Natalie, and Alex. Johnny was one of twelve cousins, Rene, Christian, Victoria, Adrian, Erik, Karina, Emily and Xavier to his maternal grandparents who were raised very close together. He was always being silly and dancing around to make them laugh. His laugh and smile were contagious. He enjoyed watching and playing baseball, fishing with his dad, Grandpa, and cousins. He enjoyed helping his Grandpa at the ranch and working on cars with his Pa. He also enjoyed barbequing, gaming, and spending time in his Grandpa's garage with his family and friends. Johnny loved caring for his two dogs, Bo and Maverick. He was a true blessing to all who knew him. They will each cherish their precious memories made with him.

Family will begin receiving friends and family at 5:30 p.m. Monday, August 29, 2022 at Guardian Funeral Home Chapel A with a Holy Rosary to be recited at 6:30 p.m. that evening.

A Funeral Mass will be Celebrated at 10:00 a.m. T uesday, August 30, 2022 at SS Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church on SPID/Kostoryz  Corpus Christi, Texas. Burial will follow in Memory Gardens Cemetery, 8200 Old Brownsville Rd.

Pallbearers include Alex Cortez, Erik Hernandez, Adrian Cantu, Matthew Gonzalez, Michael Gonzalez, Eliseo Garcia, Ezekiel Rodarte, and Isaiah Elizondo.

Honorary pallbearers include Gabriel Luna, Michael Luna, Rene Cantu, Christian Cantu, Anthony Roman, Gerardo Cabrera and Samuel Medina.
