Obituary

Jose Mateo Villarreal, Sr., 80, of Corpus Christi, Texas, passed away in San Antonio, Texas, on Tuesday, October 28, 2014.
He was born on September 21, 1934, in Corpus Christi, Texas to Candelaria R. Villarreal and Jose G. Villarreal.
Jose was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who was raised with modest means and worked hard to provide for his loved ones. In his life, he served his family, our country, and his community. He was a member of the United States Army and later worked for over 20 years with United States Postal Service. His hobbies were fishing, hunting, playing golf, and traveling. To those who knew him, he served as an example of hard work, dedication, caring, and humor. May the Lord keep him in his care and provide eternal rest until we see each other again. We love you!
Jose joins his wife, Reyes, in eternal rest and is survived by his children Gloria Perez Vasquez and husband Armando Vasquez of Corpus Christi, Texas; Tina Perez of Corpus Christi, Texas; Jose M. Villarreal, Jr., of Santa Rosa, CA, and James J. Villarreal and wife Brenda of San Antonio, TX; grandchildren Victor Licon and wife Annie of Corpus Christi, Texas, Veronica Cantu and husband Arturo of Corpus Christi, Texas, Delisa Garcia Layne and husband Andrew of Rockledge, FL, Israel Garcia and wife Maria of Corpus Christi, Texas, Christopher Villarreal of Germany, James, Brandon, and Aidan Villarreal of San Antonio, TX; great-grandchildren Justin, Allison, Aiden, Diego, Ashlyn, Noe, Meghan, Alexia, Jase; sisters Ramona Flores and husband Robert (d.), Aurora Garza and husband Luis (d.), and Oralia Ramirez and husband Jesus, and brothers Richard Villarreal and wife Mercedes and Armando Villarreal and wife Mary.
He is preceded in life by his mother Candelaria Rodriguez Villarreal, father Jose G. Villarreal, wife Reyes Balboa Villarreal, sister Maria Esther Serna, and brother Manuel Arredondo.
Special thanks to Norma Flores, Robert Saucedo, Sophie Bazaldua, Valerie McCoy, the staff at Davita Coastal Dialysis Center, the staff at Hosanna Health Care, and all nieces, nephews, loved ones and friends who met and knew him.
Visitation will begin at 4:00 p.m., Thursday, November 6, 2014 at Guardian Funeral Home Chapel A with a Holy Rosary to be recited at 7:30 p.m. that evening. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m., Friday, November 7, 2014, at Saints Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church, 3210 South Padre Island Drive, followed by a procession to the Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery for a burial with military honors.
