Jose Lazaro Medina, passed away at his home on Saturday, June 18, 2016 at the age of 63. He was surrounded by his loving family as he took his last breath.
Joe is preceded in death by his parents, Cruz and Elvira Medina. Brothers, Roberto, Juan, Nick and Lupe Medina. He is survived by his daughters, Melissa (Roland) Rocha, Michelle Medina ( Ben Salinas), Niki ( Jorge) Contreras his sweetheart Gloria Trevino, sister Slyvia Frazer, grandchildren, Aaron, Lauren, Hailey and Shelby. Numerous nieces and nephews whom he loved and adored.
Joe was the youngest of six children and grew up in Kingsville, Texas. He graduated from HM King, class of '71.
After graduation he moved to Corpus Christi and started a family. He worked for Champlin Refinery for several years however retired from the State of Texas after 20 years at the State School. After retirement, he went back to work for Christus Spohn Memorial where he worked as a mental health tech. He loved working but had to retire for the second time after becoming ill. Joe was a people person, he loved taking to everyone. He had a wonderful personality, was kind and caring and he was loved by everyone who knew him. His smile would light up a room.
He attended St. Cyril Methodius church and was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He loved the Lord and leaned on him for strength and healing during his illness. He will be dearly missed by all.
We would like to thank the amazing staff and doctors at University Hospital Transplant Center in San Antonio and at Dr's Regional for taking such good care of him. We would especially like to thank Julia, CNA for always putting a smile on our daddy's face. Thank you to Dr. Dennis for treating our father like a friend and not just a patient. To the many organ donors, thank you for donating life, the need is great.
The Family will be receiving friends and family on Thursday, June 23, 2016 from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at Guardian funeral home chapel "A" with a Holy Rosary and Celebration of Jose's life to begin at 7:00 p.m. that evening. A Funeral Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Friday, June 24, 2016 at Ss. Cyril & Methodius Catholic church, 3210 SPID/Kostryz. (ON FRIDAY, PLEASE MEET THE FAMILY AT CHURCH)**.
