Jose Gabriel Gaona, age 91, passed away peacefully, and surrounded by family, on February 28, 2026. He was born on April 30, 1934, in Spur, Texas, to Alejandra and Donaciano Gaona.
Jose lived a life defined by hard work, devotion to family, and service to his community. He worked for CC Brick and Lumber Company before beginning a long career with the City of Corpus Christi Gas Department, where he faithfully served until his retirement in 1996. Beyond his work, Jose gave many years to coaching Little League, where he enjoyed mentoring young players and sharing his love of the game.
Jose loved spending time with his family and traveling with the love of his life, his wife Maria “Cuca” Gaona. Together they shared many adventures over their 67 years of marriage, especially enjoying trips to the casinos and to visit their grandchildren.
Jose is preceded in death by his parents, Alejandra and Donaciano Gaona, his siblings, and his daughter, Debbie Gaona.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 67 years, Maria “Cuca” Rodriguez Gaona; sons, Danny and David Gaona; grandchildren, Jacob (Nicole) Gaona, Kathryn Gaona, and Lisa (Josh) Jarrard. Numerous great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson. He also leaves behind many extended family members and friends who will cherish his memory. Jose will be remembered for his dedication to his family, his strong work ethic, and the joy he found in life’s simple pleasures.
A Memorial Service will be held on March 21, 2026 at Guardian Funeral Home located at 5922 Crosstown, Corpus Christi, Texas 78417. Friends and family will gather for a visitation at 10:00 am, the Holy Rosary will be recited at 12:00 pm with the Memorial Service to follow. Family and friends are invited to gather to honor and celebrate his life.
