Obituary

Johnny Lee Farquer, 77, of Corpus Christi, Texas, passed away on October 15, 2024. Born on February 13, 1947, to Otis and Leona Farquer of Newton, Kansas. Most people know him affectionately as "John."
John served his country with honor and commitment in the United States Marine Corps. After his military service, John embarked on a diverse career path. He began as a food broker in Corpus Christi. Later, he was a service writer at Tradewinds Ford Truck Shop, and he was a familiar face at Courtesy Ford as a service writer. Eventually, his passion for the sea led him to work as a shrimper. John also spent many years behind the wheel as an oilfield truck driver before retiring.

John was a man of many interests, but his love for speed and competition led him to pursue racing as his favorite pastime. In Kansas, he raced drag cars. Later he raced at CC Speedway and Riverside Speedway and other tracks all over Texas. He was so dedicated he became the track promoter for Riverside Speedway. He found a home in the dirt track racing community of South Texas, and most Saturday nights you could find him at one of the local tracks, racing, or in the pits with his son or grandsons. He was well known in the dirt track racing community.  John was a man of many interests, including fishing and hunting, but he also loved to work on racecars and build Ford motors. His life at the racetrack brought joy not only to him but also to those who shared these moments with him.

He was a loving father and grandfather, leaving behind a large family who will miss him dearly. John is survived by his children, Landon (Sonia) Farquer, Michelle (Jody) Zdansky; his nine grandchildren, Cody, Austin, Dakota, Madysen, Cheyenne, Tucker, Halle, Samantha, and Landon Tre; and three great-grandchildren, Alex, Christopher, and Emily. He also leaves behind his love, Lisa. He was preceded in death by his parents, Otis and Leona Farquer, and his grandson, Justis.

A service to honor Johnny's life will be held on November 9, 2024, at 2:00 pm at The Fellowship of Oso Creek.

He was a man who was fiercely dedicated to his family, his country, and his passions. John Farquer will be remembered for his enduring spirit and the indelible mark he left on his community and loved ones. He leaves his family with a legacy of love and laughter from the racetrack to the Gulf waters.
