Obituary

John Richard Sanchez (Tiger), beloved father, son, brother, "Pappy" as he was called by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, went to be with the Lord surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with Lymphoma Cancer.

John (Tiger) was born in Corpus Christi to Fermin G. And Carolina O. Sanchez.  He moved with his family to Oakland, California at age 8 and attended elementary and Jr High schools.  John loved his time in Oakland so much he remained a devout Oakland Raider for life.  His secondary favorite team was the Houston Texans. In 1966, he moved back to his hometown and graduated from FH Moody High School in 1970.  John went on to study Art at Del Mar College and attended Texas A&I Kingsville.  After graduating, he started his career with Southwestern Bell, AT&T, as a cable splicer.  John became a single father raising his only son, Bryan, whom he adored and was his world. Bryan and his wife, Amy, blessed him with two wonderful children, Christian and Sydney.  Their "Pappy" was a very loved figure in their lives.

John would coach his son Bryan's Pony League team and then was very active with his grandson's baseball team, and his granddaughter's volleyball games.  He loved traveling to visit his grandchildren and great-grandchildren to spend quality time with them.  When his father was alive, he enjoyed going to the family ranch and helping with the cattle, hunting, camping, and had a pleasure just being in the outdoor wilderness. He was an avid book reader in a book club, loved artwork, painting figurines in great detail for family and friends. His other pastimes were golfing, barbecuing, working in the yard helping his mother with her beautiful plants, or just sitting on the porch with family watching and feeding the birds and also rescuing injured birds.  He loved with excitement and anticipation watching his Oakland Raiders football games, Astros baseball, Texas
Longhorns baseball, and San Antonio Spurs.  John loved traveling and culture, fine dining, listening to 70's music, dancing, and going to the movies or watching at home with his family. He loved playing Mexican Loteria and his favorite card game with his family.  He was tough and courageous, witty and humorous and had an infectious laugh. He was so lovable and sweet with the biggest heart to all and will truly be missed.

John was a faithful member of Holy Family Catholic Church and many Sundays; he attended Church Unlimited to hear his granddaughter sing. John lived his life to the fullest and always said live your life in a manner that when your ticket is punched, you have no worry or concern where your Eternal life will be.

John was predeceased by his beloved father, Fermin G. Sanchez.  He leaves behind his mother, Carolina O. Sanchez, son, Bryan (Amy), grandson Christian (Sasha), granddaughter Sydney (Matthew) Gresham, great grandsons, twins Baylor and Briggs Sanchez, and Oliver Scott Gresham.  He leaves behind his brother, Fermin O. Sanchez (Deborah), Guadalupe Roberto, sister Irene S. Amador, Roel (Janie), and Nancy (David) Ramirez, and many nieces and nephews.
