John Douglas Marek , age 72, of Orange Grove, Texas went to be with the Lord after a short battle with cancer on September 13, 2013 at home with his family at his side. He was born June 6, 1941 in Victoria, Texas to Johnnie M Marek and Mildred E Hardy.

John (aka Johnny) will be remembered for his love of country music, singing, playing the drums and guitar with many musicians in the South Texas area since the 1950's. He loved his music almost as much as he loved his grandchildren. He adorded horses and enjoyed the rodeo. John was an air conditioning mechanic for many years and retired from Del Mar College. He was honorably discharged from the Army Reserves July 31, 1969. Graduate of Del Mar College May 24, 1971.

He is preceded in death by his parents and brother Fred A. Marek and son J. Tate Marek.

John is survived by his wife Lynette P. Marek; three children, D. Shane Marek, Farrah J. (Jason) Marek-McCahan, and Kalee D. Canchola (Pedro Rios III); seven grandchildren, McKenzy L. Canchola, Garrett RD Canchola, Alexandria F. Canchola, Myles C. Rios, Keelyn M. McCahan, Tia Robb and Tayler Robb.

Special thanks to Dr. JP Schulze and the nurses at Doctors Regional Medical Center and Cheryl Hartzendorf, RN and staff at Grace Hospice (Corpus Christi) for all the love and compassion.

Visitation will be held at Guardian Funeral Home at 5922 Crosstown Expressway on Monday, September 16, 2013 3:00pm to 8:00pm. Funeral Service will be Tuesday, September 17, 2013 at 10:00am. Interment to follow at Memorial Park, 4607 FM 1889, Robstown, Texas.

Pallbearers will be Garrett Canchola, Pedro Rios III, Gene Kilgore, Daniel Lamb, Jason McCahan, and Travis Taylor.
