John Jacob De La Garza fell asleep in death on Monday afternoon May 7, 2018 after a long battle with cancer. He was born November 25, 1952 here in Corpus Christi and remained a lifelong resident. John loved music especially The Beatles, The Moody Blues and Enya. He also loved muscle cars, classic cars, pool, ping pong, fishing and long cruises in the country. John had worked as a steel fabricator, a radio engineer for local stations and lastly as a teacher at Del Mar College. He loved teaching and his students loved him even calling to encourage him during his illness. John was a joker with perfect comedic timing and a quick wit.
John is proceeded in death by his father Isaac Gregory De La Garza, mother Josephine Ramirez Orman, sister Esperanza Salinas, brothers Armando Salinas and Alfredo De La Garza. He is survived by his stepson Sean Ray (Marisol) Stephan, daughter Sky Amorette De La Garza, son Justin Joseph De La Garza, sister Mary Jean (Thomas) Arangua, brother Isaac G. (Linda) De La Garza, brother Aaron (Cindy) De La Garza, sister-in-law Gloria De La Garza, brother Rene De La Garza, brother Boni (Ofelia) De La Garza, sister Kathy De La Garza, sister June Corzine.
A memorial for family and close friends will be held in the Bastrop Room at the Schlitterbahn Resort Saturday, May 19, 2018 at 11:30 a.m.
