Joe Louis Mondragon, 70, passed away on July 22, 2014. He was born on October 11, 1943 in Corpus Christi, Texas to Alfonso N. Mondragon and Cecilia M. Mondragon.
Joe served his country as a member of the flame throwers division in the United States Marine Corp. He worked at Reynolds Metals Company, Sherwin plant in Ingleside as a Master Machinist for 42 years. After his first retirement Joe went on to work at CCAD as a machinist and then at Hooks Machine Shop. Joe was an adjunct instructor at the Del Mar College machinist program.
He was a proud member of the local Aluminum Brick and Glass Union and Steel Workers Union all his life. He was a longtime volunteer in the Boy Scouts of America and was the Scout Master of Troop 223. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 2710 for over 30 years. Joe was a proud member of the VFW.
Joe loved to travel with his family and would stop at every museum or historical marker along the way to their destination. Joe loved to hunt and camp in the great outdoors. He was a loving father, grandfather, and great grandfather.
He is preceded in death by his parents Alfonso and Cecilia Mondragon, wife Irene R. Mondragon, Sister Antonia Longoria, Brother Martin Mondragon.
He is survived by his six children, Joe (Debbie) Louis Mondragon II, Marlene (Leo) Mondragon, Michael Wayne Mondragon, Matthew (Amber) Mondragon, Patrick Mondragon, Dominic (Traci) Mondragon. His brothers Juan Eduardo Mondragon, Jose Felipe (Carolina) Mondragon, Cecilio (Maria) Mondragon, Jose Alonso Mondragon. His sisters Micaela Reyna, Ramona (Andres) Sanchez, Rosario Pena, Caroline White. Brother in law Nicolas Longoria. 10 Grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held Friday July 25, 2014 from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Guardian Funeral Home with a Holy Rosary recited at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will also be on Saturday July 26, 2014 from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. and a vehicle procession to leave at 11:15, with a Funeral Mass at St. Joseph Catholic Church at 12:00 noon with internment to follow at Rose Hill Memorial Cemetery and a Family get together to follow.
