Joe Frank Cordo, 81, passed away on April 16, 2016 at Spohn Shoreline Hospital, Corpus Christi, Texas.
Joe is predeceased in death by his parents, Anthony Cordo and Luisa Serraino, his sister, Veronica Patterson, and brother, Russell Cordo.
He is survived by his nieces, Deborah Davids, Barbara Harder(Richard), Lisa Cotham(Steve), Cathy Nelson(Gordon), Carol Malish(Ray), Mary Scheppler(Gerald) his nephews, Russell Cordo, Jr.(Diana), and Mitch Patterson(Beth).
Joe was born Giuseppe Francesco Cordo in Grand Rapids, Michigan on December 2, 1934. He was a 1953 graduate of Roy Miller High School in Corpus Christi, Texas. After graduation Joe enlisted in the Marine Corp and served from 1953 – 1957 obtaining the rank of Sergeant. He received several medals: the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Service Medal, the UN Service Medal, and the USMC Good Conduct Medal.
Joe was a long time employee of the Suntide refinery which eventually became Koch Industries. He retired in December of 1996.
His family has spent time sharing their memories and reminicising about him over the past few days and he will be lovingly remembered. He used to love to go to Luciano's for Italian food and have barbeques at his home. His mornings were spent having coffee with a group of friends at S & J Bakery. And he loved to listen to Dean Martin.
He attended church at St. Peter, Prince of the Apostles Catholic Church off Violet Rd.
The family would like to thank the nurses and doctors of Spohn Shoreline Hospital who provided care to Joe during his last days. They made a difficult time easier and it is greatly appreciated.
Joe will be buried at the Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery, 9974 IH 37 Access Road, Corpus Christi, Texas, on Friday April 22nd, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. where a graveside service will be held. The family will be having a wake immediately following the service at Joe's home located at 10745 Westview Circle, Corpus Christi, Texas 78410. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Guardian Funeral Home.
