Obituary

On May 15th, 2025, Jimmy Monk passed away peacefully at home. He was a man whose life epitomized resilience, adventure, and unwavering love, was born in Houston, Texas, on August 10, 1938. As an only child until the age of nine, he quickly learned the value of companionship when his beloved baby brother, Timothy Jackson Monk, entered his life—a bond filled with playful mischief and mutual adoration. Jim joined his father, Jim Monk Sr. in the family construction business. They built numerous auto dealerships and commercial buildings across Texas, New Mexico, and Arizona.

Jim was a passionate individual, excelling as a pilot with multi-engine and instrument ratings, and navigating motorcycles, yachts, and fishing boats. He participated in the Arabia Shrine Motor Escort, designing an award-winning motorcycle drill and winning several national competitions. He volunteered with the Harris County Sheriff's Department, and enjoyed tennis, golf, scuba diving, and global travel. His diverse pursuits inspired all who knew him.

Throughout his life, Jim served as a beacon of positivity and strength. He faced challenges head-on and met adversity with an unyielding spirit, a quality that not only defined him but also inspired those around him. Friends and acquaintances remember him as a stand-up guy—firm, ethical, kind, and fair—a skilled negotiator and mediator who never hesitated to lend an empathetic ear or a helping hand. His ability to remain upbeat, even in the toughest moments, was a testament to his indomitable character and his deep commitment to living life fully.

Above all, Jim's heart belonged to his family. For 50 wonderful years, he shared his life with his cherished wife and best friend, Evelyn, forging a partnership built on love and mutual respect. He was a devoted father to his children—Russell Allen Monk (and wife Georgia), Dale Lee Monk (and wife Terri), Vallessa Lynn Monk, and Kathleen Miller (and husband Nick)—who were the center of his world. His joy multiplied with his grandchildren—Jessica (and spouse John), Connor, Kristen, Colton, Cayden, and Cooper—and the bright light of his life, his two great-grandchildren, Penelope and Henry. Whether on family vacations to vibrant destinations like Mexico, the Caribbean, Costa Rica, or on the awe-inspiring excursions to Yellowstone, Jim treasured every moment spent with his loved ones.

Jim Monk's remarkable journey leaves behind a legacy that cannot be measured by the buildings he helped construct or the accolades he earned but by the countless lives he touched with his warmth, humor, and steadfast character. His story is one of a life lived with passion, a spirit unbroken by life's inevitable hardships, and an ever-present commitment to uplifting those around him. Though he is no longer with us, his memory will continue to inspire and guide all who had the honor of knowing him.

Jim's family extends their heartfelt gratitude to all who shared in his journey and supported him over the years. His legacy of laughter, kindness, and determination will forever remain in the hearts of his loved ones and all who crossed his path.

A Special Thank You Jim's family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to Choice Hospice of Corpus Christi for their exceptional care and support during Jim's brief illness. Their kindness and dedication brought comfort to Jim and his loved ones during a difficult time, and for that, the family is deeply grateful. We kindly request that you make a donation to a charity of your choice in memory of Jim.
