In Loving Memory Of
Jesus M. Cruz, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, veteran, and lifelong truck driver, passed away peacefully, surrounded by the love of his family, on May 29, 2026. He was born on December 25, 1938, in Rio Grande City,Texas and lived a life defined by hard work, dedication, service, and love for his family.
Jesse attended Rio Grande City High School before proudly enlisting in the United States Army in 1961. During his military service, he served as an Infantry Gunner, demonstrating the courage, discipline, and commitment that would characterize his life for decades to come.
Following his honorable service to his country, Jesse continued on a career that became his lifelong passion—truck driving. For nearly 60 years, he traveled the highways and backroads of America, a profession he deeply loved and took immense pride in. He continued driving until his retirement at the age of 76. Anyone who knew Jesse knew how much he enjoyed sharing stories from the road and reminiscing about the countless miles, adventures, and friendships he made throughout his trucking career.
When he wasn't behind the wheel, Jesse could often be found working at the family ranch, a place that brought him great joy and satisfaction. He also had a deep appreciation for automobiles, especially classic muscle cars, and spent many hours restoring, maintaining, and admiring them. His strong work ethic, mechanical skills, and love for the outdoors were qualities he proudly passed on to his family.
Jesse was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Braulio Cruz Sr. and Aurora Cruz; his cherished son, Joel Marco "Buddy" Cruz; his grandson,Jaime Miguel Cruz and his six siblings, Noe Cruz, Octavio Cruz, Braulio Cruz Jr., Delia Acevedo, Onesimo Cruz, and Jose Maria Cruz.
He leaves behind his loving wife of 64 years, Almeda "Alma" Cruz, whose unwavering love and partnership were the foundation of their family. He is also survived by his children, Joe D. Cruz, Ricardo "Rick" Cruz (Nelda), Norma Cruz-Barbosa, and Jesus “Sonny” M. Cruz Jr. (Linda); along with numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews, whom he loved dearly and who will forever cherish his memory.
Jesse will be remembered for his warm heart, strong character, tireless work ethic, and the countless stories he shared throughout his life. Whether on the open road, at the ranch, under the hood of a classic car, or surrounded by family, he lived each day with purpose and pride. His legacy of love, service, perseverance, and devotion to family will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know him.
Pallbearers honoring his memory will be Joe Cruz, Richard Cruz, Jesus Cruz Jr., Justin Cruz, Dominik Cruz, and Adolph Villarreal.
Though he may no longer travel the roads he loved so much, his journey continues in the hearts of those who loved him. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
Service Information
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 10th at Guardian Funeral Home from 9am-11am. The Holy Rosary and Chapel Service will begin at 11am and the Burial will follow at 1pm at The Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery.
