Juanita "Janie" Hernandez, 49, of Corpus Christi, TX, left to be with her Heavenly Father on January 24, 2017, after a hard fought battle with cancer.  She was born on May 31, 1967 to Jose and Herminia Hernandez. Janie attended W.B. Ray High School, where she was avid member of the NJROTC program before graduating in 1985.
Selfless and with unbounded love, Janie worked for Kostoryz Elementary for 19 years. Whether it was volunteering on the PTA Board or staying up late to finish projects and assignments, she always went above and beyond for her students and co-workers.
Janie was not just a faithful worker, but also a beloved daughter, sister, nana, aunt, and mother.
She is preceded in death by her parents; aunt, Petra Gallegos; brothers, Tony, and David Hernandez; nephew, Albert Garza III; and her beloved friend, Carol Ann Barrera. She is survived by her son, Ricardo Tamez; daughters, Janice Hernandez, and Krystal Tamez; sisters, Mary D. Garza, Diana L. Hernandez, and Francis (Carlos) Cavazos; brother, Felipe Sifuentes; nieces and nephews, Joey Garza, Linda Hernandez, Roxanne Maldonado, Carlos Cavazos, Jr., Jerome Garcia, Joseph Cavazos, and Ramon Maldonado; two grandchildren; and numerous grand-nephews and nieces. Janie is also survived in the hearts and minds of the hundreds of her "babies" at Kostoryz Elementary.
Visitation will be held at Guardian Funeral Home on Friday, January 27, from 5 p.m. until 9:00 p.m., with a Holy Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, January 28 at 10:00 a.m. at Guardian Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Memorial Park at 11:30 a.m.  In lieu of flowers, donations to the Triumph Over Kid Cancer Foundation in Janie's name would be greatly appreciated.
