Obituary

Janie G. Gonzalez, wife, mother, grandmother and Catholic, returned to the arms of our loving God on September 28, 2017. She was 84 years old. Born in Brownsville, Texas on September 5, 1933 to Herminia and Luciano Gutierrez and moved to Corpus Christi, Texas at the age of 12.

Janie was preceded in death by her late husband of more than 55 yrs., Victor Gonzalez, Sr. who left us June 2005.

She is survived by her five children: Victor Gonzalez, Jr.(Elsa) Edward Gonzalez (Rosemary), Yolanda Garza (Antonio) , Belinda Gutierrez (Vince), Gloria Ann Novak (Tom) of Las Vegas. Also surviving are her grandchildren; Valerie and Vanessa Gutierrez, Marissa and Diego Gonzalez. A special niece Julieta Gonzales – Teague and nephew Joe G. Gonzalez.

If our dad was the 'soul' of the family our MOTHER was the backbone. Her strength and assertiveness was the fire that empowered the family through hardships, small and large.
Janie will be remembered as the matriarch of our family. Although it was realized that she has rejoined our dad, she-they- will still be greatly missed.

Our memories and lessons learned from her guidance will keep us strong and united forever. Mama/Grandma, thank you for the greatest gift you left us; each other. We would also like to thank neighbors, friends, co-workers, etc. for their kind thoughts, words and support we've received during this time. You will always be in our hearts and prayers and welcomed into our family; as mom would have wanted.

Janie and the family want to give special thanks for the special care, compassion, visits, and prayers to people like her long time friend, Tillie Ramirez and her daughter Pati R. Cavazos, New Century Hospice registered nurses; Christina Kovanda, Tammy Anderson and Chaplain Roxanne Mathis for all the wonderful things they did for our mother.

Also Janie Dominguez was mother's loyal friend and caregiver for 16 years. Thank you for the abundant kindness, care, patience, and concern you provided our dear mother. She came to think of you as family. Thank you again from the bottom of our hearts for watching over mom.
Maria Elena Alvarez, thank you for the extra care, compassion, understanding and your funny sense of humor in mother's final days. With the most sincere gratitude for your assistance and support.

Mother left this world knowing of the warm and caring love these people provided to her.

You cannot imagine how it feels to know that sincere concern exists.
