IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Janet L.
Oprisko
July 13, 1942 – August 28, 2022
Janet L. Oprisko, 80, of Corpus Christi Texas, passed away unexpectedly on August 28, 2022. Although the family is saddened by her death, they are thankful for her life.
Janet was born on July 13, 1942 to parents Evelyn and Frank Ostrowski in Scranton Pennsylvania. Janet married Gerald F. Oprisko in 1961 in Scranton and they had 3 children, Cheryl, Enid and Terrence. Janet married into the Navy and lived in numerous places in the US and Scotland, and subsequently traveled to places like England and Italy.
Janet graduated from Texas A&M with a BA in Psychology in 1984, and eventually an MA in 1992, where she was immediately hired by Texas department of MHMR as a counselor for underserved individuals until 1997. Janet volunteered at the Corpus Christi Aids foundation for several years. Janet was a compassionate with her clients and they loved, trusted and respected her. Later in life, Janet worked for the Texas Voter's registry helping get the vote out for several years.
Janet's passions were reading, walking on the beach, listening to great music, watching/reading crazy horror stories, gardening, and growing all kinds of different exotic plants, getting together with family and friends and having fun. She loved to cook and loved reading/collecting cookbooks. She loved and studied history – any type. Fun fact, she hated heights, but she read all true stories of mountain climbers and lived vicariously through them. Janet was passionate about geology and collected a variety of precious stones, geodes, and other interesting rocks of all sizes and shapes. Janet was a big animal lover, but she especially loved her cats.
Everyone that knew Janet knew she was kind, caring and she had a great sense of humor.
Memories of Janet will be cherished by her husband, Jerry, daughters Cheryl and Enid, son Terrance, and sister Kathy Reap of Scranton Pennsylvania and her friends. She will be dearly missed by all.
Services will be private for the immediate family at Guardian Funeral Home in Corpus Christi Texas. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Janet's name to The Cattery of Corpus Christi, a no kill animal shelter.
