In Loving Memory of
James Robert Edwards
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of James Robert "Jim" Edwards, 84, of Corpus Christi, Texas, who entered eternal rest on January 1, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of service, devotion, and quiet strength.
Jim was a remarkable and deeply respected man, known for the unwavering love he held for his family, friends, country, and his loyal dog. He lived his life with honor, integrity, and a sense of humor that brought comfort and laughter to all those around him.
Born on October 30, 1941, in Bonham, Texas, Jim arrived ten minutes before his twin brother, Joe — a fact he took great pride in throughout their lives.
In 1960, Jim enlisted in the United States Navy, beginning a distinguished 21‑year career as an Aviation Machinist's Mate and Aircraft Mechanic. His service took him across the world, including Southeast Asia, Europe, Iceland, and multiple U.S. coasts. He served aboard four aircraft carriers, crossed the equator six times, served in the Vietnam War, and earned membership in the exclusive Order of the Blue Nose.
Throughout his military career, Jim received numerous commendations, including the National Defense Service Medal, Air Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Navy Unit Commendation, Meritorious Unit Commendation, Gallantry Cross, and five Good Conduct Medals. He retired in 1981 as a Senior Chief in Pensacola, Florida, where he chose to settle and raise his three children.
After retiring from the Navy, Jim earned his AA degree from Pensacola Junior College while working in civil service. In 1994, he transferred to the Corpus Christi Army Depot as Director of Production Management, where he continued his dedicated federal service for a total of 22 years before retiring.
Jim was an accomplished pistol and skeet shooter, an avid reader, and a proud member of the 35‑Gallon Club for his many years of blood, platelet, and plasma donations. He was a loyal friend, a beloved father and brother, and a hero to those who loved him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Lorene Edwards; his sister‑in‑law, Susan Edwards; his niece, Betsey; and his beloved German Shepherd, Rocko.
He is survived by his twin brother, Joe Eldon Edwards; his children Joel (Holly), Beckie (Gene), and Kathi (Adam); and his grandchildren Aidan, Jonah, Avery, Charlee, and Brennan. He is also survived by his niece Brenda (Dean) and their daughter Sophie, his nephew Tom (Susan) and their daughter Keun, as well as many close friends in Corpus Christi and a large, close‑knit extended family of cousins across Texas and the United States who will always hold his memory close.
Jim will be profoundly missed and forever remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
