IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Jack
Gordy
November 7, 1936 – March 27, 2025
Jack "Watch Dog" Gordy, a man of unwavering courage and boundless love, peacefully passed away on March 27, 2025, in Corpus Christi, Texas, at the age of 88. He was born on November 7, 1936, in Norman Park, Georgia, and lived a life that exemplified service, community involvement, and familial dedication.
A proud U.S. Navy veteran, Jack served his country valiantly with eight tours in Vietnam, four of which were volunteered. His bravery and commitment to his nation were among the many testaments to his character. After his distinguished military service, Jack channeled his work ethic and mechanical genius into his own small business, the "J&J Auto Hospital," where he became a well-respected figure in the community.
Jack's passion for civic engagement never waned. He was a former member of the Taxpayers Association and former President of Public Access (PAC10). His voice was a familiar one at Corpus Christi City Council meetings, where he addressed concerns ranging from political signs on city benches and the efficient use of taxpayer dollars. In November 2000, Jack said the city sent the Regional Transportation Authority a letter stating that signs on bus benches affected by the Highway Beautification Act were illegal. Jack questioned when those violations would be dealt with. In 1983, he took his dedication a step further by running for Corpus Christi City Council Place 5.
His interests were as diverse as they were engaging. Jack was a loyal patron of Whataburger, not just for his own enjoyment but as a way to connect with friends and treat children to cookies—a simple joy that he cherished. He was also an avid fan of wrestling and never missed an episode of Wheel of Fortune, sharing these moments with those he loved most.
Jack was the epitome of a family man. Preceded in death by his beloved wife, Juanita Gordy; sons, Rene Aumada, Russell Charles Gordy, and Jack Dwayne Gordy, he leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter with his ten children: Valentine Aumada, Cisco Aumada, Ada Aumada Rodriguez, David Aumada, Max (Nelesa) Aumada, Alex (Esmeralda) Aumada, Eddie (Sally) Aumada, Johnny (Liz) Aumada, Debbie (Richard) Aumada, and Sarah Gordy. Jack was the proud patriarch of a sprawling family, including 403 grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, each of whom carried a piece of his spirit and wisdom.
Described by those who knew him as loving, courageous, and intelligent, Jack Gordy lived a life that was both purposeful and joyous. His presence was a beacon of strength and inspiration to all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
In his times of need, the compassionate care provided by the doctors, nurses, and staff at Christus Spohn Shoreline Hospital, the V.A. Clinic, APC, and Angel Bright Hospice was a comfort to him and his family. Their support during Jack's final days was invaluable and will always be remembered with gratitude.
Jack "Watch Dog" Gordy's story is one of a life well-lived and well-loved. His memory will forever be etched in the hearts of his family, friends, and all who were fortunate enough to cross paths with this remarkable man.
