IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Isabel "Chavela"
Zuniga
November 5, 1929 – November 11, 2022
Isabel "Chavela" Zuniga completed her earthly journey on November 11, 2022 at the grand age of 93.
She was born in Benavides, Texas to her parents Lino and Sara Serrato on November 5, 1929.
It is nearly impossible to describe such a wonderful life in only a few words. Isabel answered to many names; "Mom", "Gamo", "Weeta", "Mommy Chavelita", "Chavela", "Tia", "Comadre"; as she served her community and her family in many roles.
Throughout her life she remained strong in her faith and devoted to both Our Lady of Guadalupe and Our Lady of San Juan. She found great strength in praying the Holy Rosary asking the Blessed Mother for intercession for all of her relatives and friends; she always prayed for anyone in need.
Her fun and loving spirit brought a beautiful light into our lives. She was a great dancer and found happiness in the words and rhythm of the music. With this joyful heart she trained many birds to sing and talk; first with her parrot and then onto doves and parakeets. Some would say she was an animal whisperer; as all of her pets came to be very obedient with her commands.
As a Friday ritual during Lent, many of her family and countless neighbors would join at her home to enjoy her famous nopalitos and refried beans; truly anything she cooked was excellent. She opened her home to everyone and ensured that they were comfortable and fed.
She had an inseparable bond with her only daughter Olga, they were truly "two peas in a pod", this love went beyond mother and daughter and more as two best friends enjoying the greatness of life together.
Our hearts ache as we bid farewell to our beautiful matriarch but this incredible love will live on in our hearts for generations to come.
Isabel is joined now in heaven by her parents and her beloved husband Ramon Zuniga, Jr.; siblings: Sara Rivera, Julia Palacios, Beatrice Ruiz, and Bernardino "Lino" Serrrato.
She is survived by her daughter Olga Guzman and the late R.A. Guzman; grandchildren: Roger (Tammy) Guzman, Richard (Lisa) Guzman; great-grandchildren: Orion, Cole, Bree, Raiden, Colby, Aaliyah, and Brooklyn, all proudly bearing the Guzman last name; she also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends whom she loved dearly.
