Ira L. (Sonny) Herndon passed away on March 26, 2024 at the age of 97. Ira was born on December 12, 1926 in Plainview, Texas to his parents Clarence O'Neal Herndon and Katy Belle Clay. He proudly served his country in the US Navy.

He was a great trot line Fisherman, with many large fish to his credit.

Ira is preceded in death by his parents Clarence O'Neal and Katy Belle Herndon; his wife Mary Herndon and two brothers Dale Thomas Herndon and Bobby Joe Herndon.

Ira is survived by his daughter Michelle Herndon, two brothers Gaylon and James Herndon. Numerous nieces and nephews.

Burial will be held April 04, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. in the Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery, 9974 IH 37 Access Rd. where Ira will receive Full Military Honors.
