It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Humberto "Bert" W. Contreras Jr., age 59 of Corpus Christi, Texas who passed away on March 7, 2025, surrounded by his loved ones. He was born on December 18, 1965, and grew up in Corpus Christi, Texas alongside his siblings, Dr, John "Butch" Garcia, Ernie Garcia, Judy Garcia, Joanna Caceras, Juanita Contreras, and Sadie Garcia.

Bert was a dedicated nurse for 30 years and spent his life caring for others as a compassionately skilled nurse in the trauma intensive care unit with Christus Spohn Hospital. His unwavering commitment to his patients and his ability to bring comfort during challenging times left a lasting impact on countless individuals and their families. His colleagues also respected his dedication and instruction in training future nurses.

In addition to his nursing career, Bert had a passion for photography and travel. He recently traveled to Australia to attend the 2025 Australian Open, and photographed events such as Corpus Christi Hooks games and Beach to Bay events. He will be remember for his infectious laughter, generous spirit, and the love he shared with everyone around him.

He is preceded in death by his sister Judy Garcia.

He is survived by his mother Mary Garcia, children Meagan Gonzales, Jennifer Contreras and Isaac Contreras, and one grandchild Theodore Gonzales.

We would like to give a special thanks to nurses, Lamar De Los Santos, Kelani Montgomery, Suzanne Roddel, Veronica Tamez and Gloria Benavides for being cherished friends and colleagues to Bert over the years.

A Celebration of Life service for Bert will be held on Monday, March 24, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at Guardian funeral home chapel.
