It is with profound sadness and loving remembrance that we announce the peaceful passing of Hilia Ramos Villarreal, who entered eternal rest on June 9, 2026, at the age of 89, surrounded by the love of her family and the memories she created through a life well lived.

She was born on July 11, 1936, in Alice, Texas to Leandro and Olivia Ramos. She grew up on the ranch Las Latas alongside her sisters in helping tend to the land throughout her childhood. As a teenager, she moved into Alice, where she continued growing and shaping her life.

She married the love of her life Rodolfo “Rudy” Villarreal of Robstown, Texas, on October 20, 1961, and moved to Corpus Christi soon after, where they had resided the rest of their days. As Rudy worked, Hilia was a homemaker, raising five sons and spending time with her grandchildren.

Hilia was an outspoken woman, known for witty sense of humor. Along with her sharp wit was her sharp sense of style; Hilia would always dress elegantly for any event or family gathering. She was an exceptional cook, known especially for her fideo-so unforgettable that its reputation reached far beyond the family table. No matter where she was-sitting in a waiting room or relaxing with her morning coffee-Hilia loved getting lost in a good word search and when game time rolled around she was right there rooting for her Texas Rangers.

Best of all, Hilia was known for being an amazing mother and exceptional grandmother. Her compassion for her loved ones knew no bounds. No matter what, Hilia would always make an effort to share all of life’s special moments with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Whether it was a birthday, wedding, or graduation, Hilia was there to celebrate with her family and enjoy a slice of cake. She never wanted to leave anyone out and went out of her way to make her loved ones feel special. Family was Hilia’s strength, and it was with this strength that Hilia lived a long and beautiful life.

Hilia is preceded in death by her husband, Rodolfo Villarreal, her son, Randy Villarreal, and her five sisters: Odilia, Hortencia, Otilia, Olaya, and Olga. She is survived by her sons Rudy, Jr. (Dee Dee), Joe (Irma), Adolph (Dolores), and Louis (Laura); her grandchildren Rudy III, Justin, Joey, Arlene, Aaron, and John Lucas; twelve great- grandchildren; her brother-in-law- Arnoldo (Olga) Valadez; and her sister-in-law Olaya V. Gonzalez.

Visitation will be held on June 29th at Guardian Funeral Home from 4 - 8 PM. The Holy Rosary will be recited on the same day at 6:30 PM at the same location. Visitations will also be held on June 30th from 9 - 11:30 AM at Guardian Funeral Home, with a funeral mass being held at 12 PM at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. Burial to follow at The Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery at 2 PM.
