IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Hilda Ameli
Cantu Chapa
February 15, 1924 – November 7, 2020
On November 7, 2020 Hilda Ameli Cantu Chapa passed away peacefully at the age of 96 after a brief illness.
Ameli had a special devotion to the Blessed Mother and praying the Rosary brought her great comfort during her final days.
Ameli was life's best gift to her children. She was a good listener and loved them all unconditionally. She was an exceptional wife and mother. She cared deeply for her family, friends and neighbors. She "showed up" not out of obligation, but because of who she was. Ameli was always the first to offer help to anyone in need, embracing them with her kind and loving heart.
She loved to spend time in her garden and one of her many favorite plants were Iris and Duranta. It was quite fitting as purple was her favorite color. Sewing brought her great joy too. She was known for hosting family quilting gatherings in her home.
Ameli loved seafood and was a regular customer at the Ancient Mariner restaurant.
The bond she had with her sisters, Lala, Rosa & Delia was one to be admired. She also enjoyed spending time with her "comadres" and treasured their friendship.
If it was broken, Ameli could fix it. She had a knack for making things work. Through her, the family knows what resilience and perseverance truly look like.
She was preceded in death by her husband Uvaldo E Chapa, daughter Rosalinda Sandoval; parents Severa N & Manuel G. Cantu, brothers, Claude, Ariel and Joe Cantu.
She is survived by her sisters, Eulalia Sanchez, Rosa Longoria,Delia Lorfing and brother Manuel N Cantu (Gloria).
Ameli is also survived by her loving children, Elva Ameli Steiner (Michael) Avelina Ugues (Jesus), Elbert D. Chapa (Diana), Carlos G. Chapa, Step son Uvaldo E Chapa, Jr.; and 17 grandchildren, Bryan, Nathan, Michael Aaron, Jessie, Jason, Jacob, Monica, Dennis Jr., Deandra, Lisa Marie, Paul, Alex, Kristi, Valerie,Veronica, Carlos Jr., Milton; along with 23 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
