Family Remarks

I remember my Tio Flaco lived with us when we lived in the Molina neighborhood/2 story house and also when we lived in my Mimi's house/Acapulco House. He was always good with us kids. I think it was probably because it allowed him to keep the youthful spirit he had. He was like the child whisper, literally. He has probably taken care of all my generation nieces & nephew, and the two generations preceding. I specifically remember the summer before I started high school, he took me to buy a blizzard every single day. Seriously, every single day. We were both so happy eating ice cream together. I will cherish the times I spent with him as a child and as an adult. My girls know him as my Favorite Uncle, "The one that took me to DQ every day one summer." He was so sweet to my Sarita and always found a way to come see me when I was in town visiting as an adult. I'm proud he served our country and love how much he loved us kids. I will miss you, Tio Flaco. P.S. I'll never forget my favorite summer.

Our brother Hilario was a simple man. He didn’t have much, didn’t like the idea of living by himself. So he never lived by himself. He was always with his sisters and one of his favorite nieces. Oh boy did my brother have nicknames. When we grew up as kids, they would always call him Cornejo. We used to play in the water lake behind our grandfather Rogelio Munoz's house and he would run like a rabbit. As he became a teenager, we started calling him Rabbit. But once he became an adult, it was always Flaco. The other day I was asked, “Who is Hilario?” by a cousin of ours, and I said, “That’s my brother,” and she said, “Is that Cornejo? Yes!”
