Obituary

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Hector Garcia on March 25, 2025, at the age of 75. Born on August 9, 1949, in Rio Hondo, Texas, Hector lived a full and vibrant life marked by service, dedication, and love. He spent 45 years in Corpus Christi, Texas, where he was not only a devoted family man but also an active and respected member of the community.

Hector proudly served his country in the United States Air Force from 1969 to 1974. During his service, he continued his college education in Florida before completing his degree in Mathematics at what is now Texas A&M University – Kingsville. Shortly after graduation, he began a long and successful career with Southwestern Bell/AT&T, where he worked until his retirement in 2001.
In his retirement, Hector enjoyed learning about financial systems and stayed engaged by serving on the Board of Directors at Members 1st Credit Union for 11 years, including time as Chairman. He was known for his thoughtful insight and his desire to help others make informed financial decisions.

A devoted father of three boys, Hector was deeply involved in their lives, especially in sports. He became a soccer coach and later a referee, sharing the sidelines and whistle with his oldest son. His voice could often be heard cheering and guiding his teams with enthusiasm and pride. He found great joy in staying active, spending time outdoors, whether it was fishing, kayaking with his beloved wife Yolanda, relaxing at the beach, barbecuing with friends, gardening, or going on long walks.

Hector was a man of faith and commitment. He and Yolanda were long-time members of Most Precious Blood Catholic Church, where they both volunteered their time. Hector also served with the Knights of Columbus, continuing to give back to his community in meaningful ways.

Hector is survived by his sons Mark Garcia (wife Tina) and Richard Garcia (wife Melissa); and his cherished grandchildren Maddie, Chloe, Jacob, Benjamin, and Xavier Garcia. He is also survived by his sister Maria "Juanita" Parkin, his mother-in-law Anita Gomez, and ten brothers- and sisters-in-law both on the Garcia and Gomez sides of the family. He leaves behind many beloved cousins, nieces, and nephews who will miss his humor, wisdom, and generous spirit.

He is reunited in Heaven with his wife, Yolanda Garcia; his son, Michael Garcia; his grandson, Hutcherson P. Garcia; his parents, Manuel and Bertha Garcia; his brothers, Manuel and Ismael Garcia; his father-in-law, Ramiro Gomez; and his nephew, John Michael Flores.
