Hazel Sartin Sappington Hooge was born on April 29, 1943, in Corpus Christi, Texas, to Margaret Johnson Sartin and D.L. Sartin. Hazel passed peacefully on June 7, 2026, at the age of 83. During her childhood, she lived in Bluetown and Chapman Ranch before settling in Driscoll, where she spent most of her adult life raising her family.

Hazel was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Harold “Bugger” Sappington; and her second husband, Daniel Hooge.

Hazel had a gift for making people feel welcome. She never met a stranger and was always willing to offer a helping hand, a listening ear, or words of encouragement. Strong in her faith, she faithfully attended Bishop Baptist Church until moving to Corpus Christi. Her kindness, compassion, and unwavering love touched countless lives and brought comfort to many. Above all, Hazel cherished her family and loved her children and grandchildren with all her heart.

She is survived by her children, Jessie (Lindey) Sappington and Mary (Buck) Fox, who were her pride and joy; and by her beloved grandchildren, Sydnee, Reagan (Jake), Hunter, Benjamin, Ethan, and Landon. Hazel was especially excited to welcome her first great-granddaughter, who is due in a few months, and she looked forward to her arrival with great joy and anticipation.

Hazel dearly loved her sisters, Nancy and Debbie (Richard), whom she had recently visited on a road trip to Tennessee. She also cherished her extended stays in Pennsylvania, where she spent many happy days with her niece and nephew, TJ (Joe) and Duward Edward.

She is also survived by her special cousin, Robyn Haddick; her lifelong best friend, Mae Pinkerton; her favorite son-in-law, Keith Ray Smith; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends who will miss her deeply and remember her with love.

A Celebration of Life will be held at First Baptist Church in Bishop, Texas, on Friday, June 12, at 11:00 a.m. Friends and family are welcome to join in fellowship and a light meal following the service at the FBC Bishop Fellowship Hall.
