Obituary

Guadalupe Rivera, Sr., left us peacefully on November 15, 2025, in Corpus Christi, Texas. He was born on August 22, 1940, in Corpus Christi, the cherished son of the late Francisco and Bibiana Rivera. Guadalupe's life spanned 85 years, filled with love, laughter, and a wealth of treasured memories.

On October 13, 1963, Guadalupe married his beloved junior high sweetheart, Maria Elena Galvan. Their enduring love served as a cornerstone of his life, and together they built a family that would flourish and thrive. Guadalupe was preceded in death by his devoted wife, Maria Elena, as well as his siblings: Manuela, Aurora, Rosa, Petra, Jesse, Gabriel and Carlos; who were not only his siblings but also his lifelong friends.

Guadalupe is survived by his loving children, Elida E. Alvarez (Edward), Olga L. Robledo (Ron), and Dr. Guadalupe (Junie) Rivera, Jr.; eight adoring grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; six granddogs; and several great granddogs. He is also survived by his siblings, Mary Rivera, Danny Rivera, Ernest Rivera, and Ray Rivera.

A proud graduate of Miller High School, class of 1959, Guadalupe later pursued vocational training in automotive mechanics at Del Mar College. His dedication to his craft led him to a successful career as an auto mechanic.  Even though he worked long days, he would always find time to be the neighborhood mechanic, helping others with their car repairs. His work ethic and determination were evident in everything he did.

Guadalupe was a man of many interests and hobbies. He had a passion for running and an appreciation for the beauty of nature, often enjoying the sight of seagulls gliding through the sky. He found joy in the music of the 1950s and the beloved Tejano sounds that reverberated through his home. An avid fan of the classic television show Sanford and Son, he also had a complicated relationship with the Dallas Cowboys, often expressing his frustrations with humor. His pride and joy was his 1952 Chevy, a testament to his love for classic automobiles. Those who knew him will fondly remember his playful habit of popping gum, often to the annoyance of his beloved wife.

Guadalupe had a funny sense of humor that could light up a room. He had an insatiable love for sweets, especially popcorn, Oreos, and a wide variety of candies and apples. Above all, his heart was filled with an unwavering love for his grandchildren, who were the apples of his eye and brought immeasurable joy to his life.

His family expresses their deepest gratitude to Elizabeth Perez for her compassionate care and support during his final years. Her kindness made a profound difference in his life, and for that, they are eternally grateful.

A celebration of Guadalupe's life will be held at Guardian Funeral Home in Corpus Christi on November 23, 2025, visitation will begin at 4pm and Service will be held at 6:30 PM.
