IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Guadalupe Gonzalez,
Jr.
September 23, 1936 – August 9, 2023
With heavy hearts we announce the passing of the patriarch of our family, Guadalupe "GoGo" Gonzalez Jr, a proud Veteran of the United States Coast Guard and the United States Marine Corp. He passed away on August 9th, 2023 at the age of 86. He was a retired employee of the Corpus Christi Army Depot for 35 years and he was able to enjoy his retirement since he retired at the young age of 59 ½ years old
He leaves behind to cherish his memories his beautiful wife of 67 years, Elvia R. Gonzalez. He is also survived by his most loving family, Daughter-in-Law Rose Marie Gonzalez, Alice Espinoza (Baldemar), Imelda Molina (Rick), Guadalupe Gonzalez III (Rocio), Marisela Moya (Edward), Carlos Gonzalez (Tammy) and Rose Hebert (Richard) and his little dog Roland. He was welcomed into heaven by his two children that had gone before him, Jose Luis Gonzalez and la mas chiquita Melissa Cantu.
He is joined now in heaven by his parents, two brothers, Rolando Gonzalez, Roberto Gonzalez and his sister Gloria Moreno and his son-in-law Abram Cantu.
The legacy of Dad's life will always be defined by his large family; all of whom he was proud of. He had 23 grandchildren, Joey, Jessica and Joanna, Jennifer, Jennille, Baldemar and Lisa, Ricky, Joshua and Kimberley, Evan and Elissa, Michelle, Monica and Justin, Christopher, Clarissa and Cami, Jacob and Aiden, Brittany and Abram Jr. (AJ).
Dad also had 29 great-grandchildren and the newest, great-great grandchild, Sophia. He had more great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren on the way. We would also like to acknowledge those that cared for our dad, close family friend Cynthia Franco, providers at Visiting Angels and RiverCity Home Care and La Familia Home Health that took extremely good care of our dad at all times. Doctor Hinojosa at the VA and Dr. D that took care of dads loving heart.
He was born in Brownsville, TX to his parents Maria Del Roble and Guadalupe Gonzalez Sr. He was the oldest son of 9 children, and he was proud to carry on his dad's name. Do not leave out the "Jr."! Dad wore many hats in his life, he shined shoes, he baked at his parents bakery, he co-owned a gas station, he was an umpire for over 25 years and he was an Aircraft Mechanic/Assembler.
Dad was a very faithful and devoted Catholic at St. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church, where he was a parishioner for over 55 years. He was involved with the Knights of Columbus, De Colores, Guadalupano, Cursillo, A.C.T.S., he volunteered with the Works of Mercy and he was an usher for over 30 years.
He enjoyed watching his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren play any sport they were involved with. He was their biggest fan and biggest fan of the sport they played. He had shirts and caps for every school in Corpus Christi. My dad was a long time Oilers fan and when the Oilers moved away from Houston, he decided he wasn't going to root for any football team but he did have a love for baseball and his Astros.
Dad was a longtime member of the Marine Corp League and he supported the VFW and the American Legion.
Carrying him to his final resting place will be his grandsons/pallbearers, Joey Gonzalez, AJ Cantu, Baldemar Espinoza Jr, Ricky Molina, Joshua Molina, Evan Gonzalez, Justin Moya, Christopher Gonzalez and his two honorary pallbearers Jacob and Aiden Hebert.
A special thank you to Randy and Rox-Ann Roldan, owners of Julio's Mexican Restaurant for donating the food for the family lunch and the VFW for hosting the lunch.
