IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Guadalupe "Lupita"
Garcia
January 24, 1947 – November 30, 2023
The beautiful life of Guadalupe "Lupita" Garcia exemplified, 1 Corinthians 13:13, "So now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; but the greatest of these is love." Lupita's blessings and faith foundation began in her birthplace in Harlingen, Texas with her devout Catholic mother, Vivian and her father, Alfredo Garcia. As the oldest child of four and only daughter, Lupita's love for her family began at an early age, as she would tend and nurture her three younger brothers, Alfredo (Freddy) Jr., David and Albert.
A family move to Corpus Christi in 1950 would bring her family to meet an amazing group of friends and build a lifetime of memories which included her spiritual journey, a family of two beautiful daughters and two very handsome grandsons.
A 1965 graduate of W.B. Ray High School, Lupita enjoyed her time in various High School Social Clubs and at social dances with her friends who she could count on for decades. Her love for music and dance was the joy she witnessed with her own parents. Her music genre ranged from Motown to Tejano. Beyond music, her admiration for timeless fashion, design and beauty were modeled by Audrey Hepburn, Coco Chanel, Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, Jane Fonda and her own mother, Vivian, who would be her own beauty icons. As a young lady who appreciated the finer things in life, Lupita also valued a strong work ethic, kindness, and love for family.
In her pursuit to create her own future with her first job at Shoppers World, her talents caught the eye of Conrado M. Garcia, Jr., who was also starting his own career. The two would exchange phone numbers but only because Lupita had her own non-negotiables. Two years later, the two wed on July 12, 1969, at Corpus Christi Cathedral and celebrated 51 years of marriage before Conrado's passing on July 20, 2020. Lupita's love and faith to her marriage never wavered and time with her husband was a love God gifted her to bestow. Her vocation as a mother to her daughters, Regina and Ronika, was her calling to be their #1 supporter and friend as they navigated through several activities including Camp Fire and Hi Fairnessee Girls Club plus serving as their biggest fan at softball, soccer, basketball and cheerleading games. Her highlight was supporting them through their high school career with both graduating from Incarnate Word Academy. The love for her family transcended when she became, Grandma G.G. "gorgeous grandma" to two grandsons, Riel and Joaquin, who were her greatest joy and God's blessings. Through them, she would be their spiritual leader, teacher and strongest advocate and example of unconditional love. Her boys, her angels.
To be called "friend" by Lupita meant you were a blessing and loved. She admired, respected and valued the trust of others. Her unwavering and deep friendships expanded from her childhood, to neighbors, Al and Alice, who would become the epitome of friendship for both Lupita and Conrad, to their Bunco friends they would meet in the late 1980's. As each decade passed, their friendships became the blessings she would lean on for laughs, cries, stories, cheering for their children and grandchildren at high school sports games and never-ending creative storytelling. Spiritual friendships would be Lupita's north star of finding peace and comfort in her Catholic faith. Her mother, Vivian, was her first compass point to the beauty of a devout faith to our Lord and His mother, Mary.
Lupita was a beautiful witness to her mother serving at Holy Family Catholic Church Choir. She would follow her mother's footprint and serve her church, Corpus Christi Cathedral, for 22 years as an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion. Her reverence for the Lord was admired by many parishioners and for Lupita, the joy and her calling was offering Holy Communion to those who were homebound. She met many parishioners outside the church walls and became a disciple for them who in turn proclaimed their devout faith and blessings. One of her best memories were the moments spent decorating the Corpus Christi Cathedral for Easter and Christmas. Her friendships with fellow parishioners, Priests, and staff were one of honor and humility; all serving the Lord. Her journey to Heaven to see our Lord will be filled with an eternal life she only dreamt about and in her new home, she will once again see her Mother, Father, and her brothers, David and Albert. While tears and smiles will surround her, her peace will come when our Lord leads her to her love, Conrad, and she will hear, "Well done and thank you, my good and faithful servant for you led your daughters, their spouses and children to become disciples.
