Obituary for Gregorio “Fireball” Barboza

Gregorio “Fireball” Barboza, age 67, of Corpus Christi, Texas, passed away on October 6, 2026. He was born on November 22, 1958, in Pleasanton, Texas, to the late Pedro “Pete” Barboza and Jesusa “Susie” Barboza.

Greg grew up in a close, loving family alongside his brothers Andres (Andy) and wife Rosie, Homer, Peter, and his late brother Juan Barboza. He was preceded in death by his beloved children, Sare Lee Barboza‑Ramirez and Greg “DJ Yogi” Barboza, whom he carried in his heart every day. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and cousins who adored him and will forever cherish his memory.

Greg also shared a deeply meaningful bond with his best friend, Nancy Wilmot, who stood by him with unwavering friendship and love. She never left his side, and his family is forever grateful for the loyalty, patience, and care she showed him throughout the years.

Greg lived a life defined by service, strength, and heart. He was a proud U.S. Army Veteran, serving his country with honor. After his military service, he continued protecting his community as a Corpus Christi Firefighter, a role that fits his courage and compassion. He later spent years on the road as a truck driver, carrying the same steady strength and commitment that defined every part of his life.

But Greg’s greatest passion — the place where his spirit truly came alive — was behind the DJ booth. With his unforgettable voice, he became a DJ for radio stations, nightclubs, parties, and anywhere people wanted to dance. Music wasn’t just something he played; it was something he felt, something he shared, something he used to bring people together. His voice, his energy, and his presence made every room brighter.

Many wondered how he earned the nickname “Fireball.” He loved telling the story. During a boxing match for the fire department, he threw a punch so powerfully that someone said it looked like a "Ball of Fire" flying through the air. He never forgot that moment. Later, when he stepped behind the DJ booth and found his true passion, he carried that memory with him and proudly adopted the name — a name that matched his spark, his personality, and the way he lit up people’s lives.

Greg was known for his big, beautiful smile, his humor, and his kindness. He would help anyone if he could; no questions asked. He was caring, loyal, and deeply devoted to his family. To know him was to love him. To be loved by him was a blessing.

Even in passing, Greg continued giving. He was an organ donor, and his final wish was fulfilled — a testament to his generous spirit and the way he always tried to help others.
