Obituary

Gilberto Carlos Rodriguez Sr. was born in Robstown, TX on December 14th 1946 to Nicholas, Jr. and Amelia Rodriguez. Gilbert was raised alongside his siblings Nicholas III (deceased) (Irma), Daniel (Dalia), Nina (Henry), Luz (Valentine), David (Sylvia) (deceased) and Roland (Arlene).

He loved his family and shared special and extremely close bonds with his parents, brothers, and sisters. Shortly after graduating high school Gilbert left home to honorably served our country in the Vietnam War as an Army Intelligence Officer. Upon returning from war Gilbert began the family trucking business with his brothers that continued for several years. He loved being a truck driver. He was married to Amanda Garcia Rodriguez whom he loved deeply, until she was called home with the Lord.

Gilbert was a family man and the joy of his life were his children: Jennifer Recio (Rick), Gilbert Rodriguez Jr (Ofelia), Ralph Cantu, and Oscar Zamora (Alma). Gilbert was blessed with many grandchildren: Phillip, Izabella, Reina, Ricky III, Candace (Jacob), Trey, Jesse, Maranda, Tasha, Sabrina and Oscar. He was further blessed with five great grandchildren: Ad'lynn, Mila, Ximenna, Reina and Oscar. Gilbert valued creating memories with loved ones and celebrating life to the fullest with family and friends. His free spirit and confidence was a contagious energy that undoubtingly touched the souls of everyone around him. His ability to listen without judgement and offer advice and understanding was undeniably one of his most special qualities. Gilbert embodied an effortless swagger and a smile that could brighten even the darkest of days. He was a humble man who saw great joy in life's simple pleasures. It was in his very nature to be a blessing to anyone in need and found pleasure in serving others. He gave one hundred percent of himself to everything he did, from working hard throughout his career to being an incredible father who cared deeply for his children and valued his strong connection with each of them. He was a true friend to all and the absolute best dance partner to so many. He will be greatly missed, however we rejoice in knowing that Gilbert is alive with Christ and dancing in the presence of

Our Father, reunited with his beautiful wife. May we be empowered to honor the memory of Gilberto Rodriguez to lead a peaceful life of sincerity, grace, and
absolute joy.
