IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Gilberto Carlos
Rodriguez, Jr.
May 14, 1973 – August 25, 2025
Gilberto Carlos Rodriguez. Jr., lovingly known as "Gilé", "Baby Gile,", "Gile boy", "McFly", passed away on August 25, 2025, at the young age of 52. Born on May 14, 1973, in Corpus Christi, Texas, and raised in Robstown, Texas. Gilbert lived a life defined by faith, loyalty, laughter, and love for his family.
He proudly served his country as a veteran of the U.S. Army and later built a career following in the footsteps of his best friend and hero, his Dad, as a hardworking truck driver. Gilbert carried his faith as a devoted Catholic and lived by values of faith, strength, respect, and authenticity—always walking his own path while keeping his loved ones close.
He is survived by his devoted and loving wife, Ofelia Marie Rodriguez; his beloved children Candace Rodriguez (Jacob Canales), Gilberto C. Rodriguez, III, Jesse Lopez, and Maranda Lopez and his cherished grandchildren Ad'Lynn Canales, Mila Canales, and Ximenna Rodriguez. Mother, Rosa Zamora. Siblings Oscar Zamora (Alva), Ralph Cantu, and Jennifer V. Recio (Rick). He is also survived by his in-laws Aurelio (Carmen) Huerta, along with nieces and nephews, extremely close family members and friends who were like family and those who will forever hold him in their hearts.
Gilbert was preceded in death by his father, Gilbert C. Rodriguez Sr., and his stepmother, Amanda "Mandy" Rodriguez.
Those who knew him will remember his joyful and playful spirit, strong will, his goofy humor, his steadfast loyalty, and the way he made everyone—family, friends, and even strangers—feel respected and seen. His oldest daughter captured it best:
"You're a real one, Dad. You lived life on your terms—rewrote the rules & stayed true to you. That's my favorite thing about you. You always had our backs. You brought joy to everyone, the goofiest and realest in the game pop. Thank you for loving us as we are, for listening without judgment, and for treating us with respect since we were young. That's why I am exactly who I am: I'm Gilbert's daughter. Rest easy, Pop. We know you've got our backs always. The thought of you reunited with Grandpa brings us peace. You fought so hard with faith, and I couldn't be prouder to be your daughter. I love you."
A public visitation will be held beginning at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, at Guardian Funeral Home, 5922 Crosstown, with a Holy Rosary to be recited at 6:30 p.m. A Catholic Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, September 10, 2025 at St. Cyril & Methodist Catholic Church 3210 S Padre Island Dr., at 12 noon followed by burial at the Veterans Cemetery at 2 pm.
Gilbert will live on in the love of his wife, the love and laughter of his grandchildren, the strength and love of his children, his values instilled of faith, respect and loyalty in all who knew him and the love he left tattooed on everyone's heart.
