IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Gilberto P.
Garcia
April 19, 1956 – July 27, 2025
Gilbert Garcia entered into eternal rest in the early morning hours of Sunday, July 27, 2025, at the age of 69, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born on April 19, 1956, in Falfurrias, Texas, Gilbert lived a life full of love, generosity, and deep connection to those around him.
To know Gilbert was to be touched by his kindness. He had a heart of gold and never met a stranger—every conversation, every encounter left a lasting impression. His warm smile and easygoing nature made people feel seen, heard, and cared for. Gilbert gave freely of his time, his love, and whatever he had to help others. That spirit of giving continued until his very last days.
Gilbert loved playing billiards with his boys, especially when he could text his son Gilbert, Jr. asking him if he needed "free pool lessons" -knowing full well he'd come out on top. He also loved hunting with his cousins and riding on the second love of his life, his motorcycle. He referred to it as his therapy. A die-hard Dallas Cowboys fan, Gilbert never missed a game. If he wasn't sitting next to his daughter yelling at the TV, they were texting each other throughout the game. Gilbert also loved attending his grandchildren's sporting events, he especially loved practicing baseball with his grandkids.
Gilbert spent many years in the pool business, beginning his career working for Pacesetter Pools and eventually becoming a proud small business owner. He started teaching his boys the swimming pool business before they could probably even spell "chlorine," and now he's managed to raise a whole crew of friendly competition in the family. On weekends, he loved kicking back with a few cold ones and good company. He'd often call over his youngest son for a beer with a wink and say, "if you're going to work like a man, you should drink like a man, but don't tell your mom."
One of his final wishes was for his family to stay close. Even in his last moments, he brought his loved ones together, just as he always had throughout his life.
He shared 52 beautiful years of marriage with the love of his life, Dalia Garcia, who stood faithfully by his side. He is survived by his four children: Gilbert Garcia, Jr. (Nora), Zenaida Guerrero (Cruz), Gabriel Garcia (Erika), and Tamara Ruiz (Aaron). Gilbert also lovingly raised Jaime Perez (Jaime) as his own son, and he cherished Jaime's children as his grandchildren. Gilbert was a proud grandfather to 21 grandchildren including Jaime's children and 14 great-grandchildren, all of whom he loved deeply.
Gilbert is also survived by two brothers, his "favorite" sister and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. He is preceded in death by his beloved parents, Feliciano and Guadalupe Garcia, along with several cherished aunts and uncles who played a special role in his life.
In his final days, Gilbert expressed his profound gratitude to his medical team, especially Dr. Matthew Alexander, Dr. Aftab Mahmood, and Dr. Gerard Voorhees, whom he considered his heroes. He held a special place in his heart for the caring staff at Dr. Mahmood's infusion center—Grace, Monica, Minerva, Margarita, and Margo—whose warmth, laughter, and "chisme" brightened his treatments. Gilbert also wanted to thank his hospice team, Ms. Connie and Ms. Terry, whose visits brought him comfort and peace.
Gilbert extended a heartfelt thank you to his Tía Olga and Tía Cris, whom he loved as second mothers. Their support meant the world to him. He also shared a lifelong bond with his cousins, Julian, Pedro, Pete, Jr., and Alvaro, whom he loved not just as family, but as brothers.
Lastly, but certainly not least, Gilbert wanted to express his gratitude to Father Meme of Laredo. Gilbert's faith deepened profoundly through his relationship with Father Meme. During times of sadness and anxiety, Gilbert would often call Father Meme, who offered him prayer, comfort, and reassurance. Gilbert was especially grateful for the times Father Meme traveled to Corpus Christi to pray with him and support him in person.
