IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Gilbert R.
Rodriguez
June 12, 1949 – August 6, 2024
On August 6, 2024, our family lost a very special man, Gilbert Rodriguez. He was a beloved Husband, a loving Father, a supportive Grandfather, a Compadre, a Brother, an Uncle, a Friend, and an accomplished CPA. Gilbert was a proud University of Houston Alumni; Gil loved attending a live Astros or Texans game, but never missed a game on TV when he couldn't be there in person. Growing up, he was an all-around athlete all throughout high school. He played important roles such as point guard in basketball, shortstop/pitcher in baseball, and was the quarterback of the football team. The enviable work ethic he built over the years resulted in him becoming a role model for several, especially his family. Despite his success as a CPA, fatherhood proved to be his greatest accomplishment. Being a father proved to be the most influential and impactful role of his life. Losing him is a surreal experience for all those who were blessed enough to know him. He was a pillar of wisdom and his immense knowledge of all things music or history, was like no other. His quick wit and passion for music will always leave a lasting impression.
He was born on June 12, 1949, in Little Rock, Arkansas. He attended high school in Brownsville, Texas and met his loving wife shortly after moving to Corpus Christi, Texas. They were married for 51 beautiful years, and shared a love and bond that could only be described as special. He raised two daughters who grew up to be just as strong minded and determined as he was. He always strived to be the best husband, father, and provider for his family. He was a genuine man who was always able to bring out the best in all who knew him. He instilled the importance of never worrying about the things you can't control and to always trust in God to get you through the toughest of times. He loved and adored his wife dearly, his children, grandchildren, and always took care of and supported us all. Surrounded by his loving family in his final moments, he was a man of immense humor and wisdom, cherishing every moment spent with his loved ones. Although he is no longer with us, we know that he will always be watching over us all from Heaven. We will forever keep his memory alive by remembering all the beautiful memories, cherish the lessons he taught us, remembering his laughter, and ensuring that we always strive to make him proud each and every day. We will forever miss you and love you always.
He is preceded in death by his parents; Leonel Rodriguez, Maria Benita Reyes; his daughter Julie Diane Rodriguez. He is survived by his wife Lina Rodriguez, his daughters Jenny (Cory) Robertson, Diana Rodriguez (Eric Kurtz), and his grandchildren Kayla and Brayden Robertson. He is survived by his siblings; Elia (Jack) Kelley, Diana Gutierrez, Stella (Bert) Colmenero, Margie Toscano, Virginia (Dave) Griffith, Leo (Elvia) Rodriguez, and Steve Rodriguez. He is also survived by his Aunt Nora, Uncle Jimmy, and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
