Obituary

Gerardo Salinas affectionately known as Yayo or Jerry, was called to his eternal home on Sunday, October 5, 2025, surrounded by his family in his birthplace of Corpus Christi, Texas. Born on May 26, 1968. He was a cherished son, brother, uncle, nephew, and cousin who departed this world too soon at the age of 57 in Corpus Christi, Texas where he was raised and attended schools in Corpus Christi. Yayo's life was a testament to God's Grace, Mercy, and Love.

Gerardo is preceded in death by his paternal and maternal grandparents.

At birth he was born with a heart murmur, who endured fatigue and tiredness as a joyful, playful and energetic toddler until he underwent heart surgery at the young age of seven. Yayo would go on to live a normal life full of gusto. Yayo's journey through life was marked by resilience, love and he was fighter in every sense. When he was faced with the biggest life challenges, literally when in a fight for his life, he fought with strength, to much amazement by those around him. He grew up in a loving home surrounded by love, and the love for music of all genres from mariachi to tejano, and jazz, but his all time favorite music was classic rock and roll. His favorite pastimes were fishing, listening to music, home cooked meals prepared by his loving mom, especially ribeye and fries. He loved to barbecue fajitas, tripas, mollejas, a foiled sweet potato on the pit, while having a cig y con una cerveza y otra mas. He found great joy in spending time with loved ones. As he became ill and less mobile, his greatest joy were his great niece Alexis and great nephew Robbie's frequent visits with him in his home.

Gerardo is survived by his parents, Sylvia Duran Salinas and Humberto "Chino" Salinas, his brothers, Javier Salinas (Lydia), Hector Garcia, Robert Villegas (Alexandra), his dearest cousins Alicia Villegas and Jo Ann Marie Villegas. His closest cousin, Alicia was his best friend, his ride or
die. Growing up they were two peas in a pod, inseparable until his passing. Yayo is also survived by a couple of aunts and uncles, and numerous cousins.

He will be missed by his family and all who knew and loved him.

There will be a gathering from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. for family and friends on Friday, October 17, 2025 at Guardian funeral home chapel with a Holy rosary to be recited at 6:30 p.m. followed by a Celebration of Gerardo's life.
